Summary: This study systematically profiled oxylipins in young men with gout and identified new biomarkers for differentiating gout from hyperuricaemia. Differential oxylipins derived from arachidonic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, and docosahexaenoic acid could serve as serum biomarkers in clinical diagnosis of gout.

Summary: This study identified genetic variants and polygenic risk scores related to female gout and asymptomatic hyperuricaemia (AH) through a genome-wide association study (GWAS). The variants in the SLC2A9 gene were found to be the major genetic factors associated with gout in females aged >= 50, while variants in the SLC2A9, ZNF518B, PKD2, and ABCG2 genes were significantly related to AH in both age groups. The polygenic risk score provided a more accurate prediction of gout and AH.

Summary: This study found that serum urate levels and obesity prevalence are higher in early onset gout patients compared to later-onset gout patients. Sugar-sweetened beverage intake replaces alcohol as the main dietary risk factor for early onset gout, and is associated with a higher prevalence of obesity and higher sUA levels.

Summary: Despite our fluency in reading human faces, we sometimes perceive illusory faces in objects. In a large-scale behavioral study, it was found that these illusory faces can be perceived with specific emotional expressions, age, and gender. Interestingly, there is a strong bias to perceive these illusory faces as male rather than female, which cannot be explained by preexisting associations or visual features.

Summary: The categorization of dominant facial features, such as sex, is highly relevant for social interaction, with biological sex, gender role identification, and sexual orientation all playing a role in influencing face sex categorization. Contrary to previous literature, biological sex alone was not significantly associated with image ratings, suggesting that participant sexual attraction and gender role identity also play a significant role in how faces are perceived.

Summary: This paper investigates gender differences in the treatment effects of business grants on firm performance following natural disasters. The results suggest that the business grant has a positive impact on the performance of male-owned firms, but zero effect on that of female-owned firms. Several potential mechanisms drive the results, including gender differences in business investment, household expenditure, and initial business closures.

Summary: Current research on the association of the immune system and eating disorders mainly focuses on anorexia nervosa patients, with the need for further exploration in bulimia nervosa and other specified feeding and eating disorders. Early onset anorexia nervosa patients may exhibit an immunosuppressive status, aiding in a better understanding of the development and maintenance mechanisms of eating disorders.
