A new species of Neoechinorhynchus (Eoacanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae) from Pachyurus bonariensis (Perciformes: Sciaenidae) from the Parana River basin in Argentina, with comments on two other species of the genus. - Neoechinorhynchus (Hebesoma) colastinense sp. n. is described from the intestine of Pachyurus bonariensis a freshwater fish from Parana River basin. The new species is characterized by having a cylindrical trunk, elongated but swollen anteriorly; a spherical proboscis with a prominent apical organ; the anterior circle of hooks very large, alternating in 2 levels, separated from more posterior circles of hooks, but sometimes surpassing the hooks of the middle and posterior circles; a relatively long neck; the male reproductive system occupying 78-81% (79%) of the trunk length; the female reproductive system occupying 27-39% (32%) of the trunk length; and eggs elongated with polar prolongation of the fertilization membrane. Members of the species can be distinguished easily from the other species of South American Neoechinorhynchus Stiles & Hassall, 1905 because they are the only ones with characteristics of the subgenus Hebesoma. Additionally, two other species are recorded for the first time in Argentina: Neoechinorhynchus (Neoechinorhynchus) macro nucleatus Machado Filho, 1954 from Lycengraulis grossidens and N. (N.) pimelodi Brasil-Sato & Pavanelli, 1998 from several species of Pimelodus. The presence of an apical organ at the proboscis tip is recorded in the new species and N. (N.) macronucleatus. Studies using scanning electron microscopy revealed the presence of non-rimmed pores in the tegument throughout the trunk, neck and proboscis of all three species. A key to the South American species of Neoechinorhynchus is provided.

Summary: The discovery of Pomphorhynchus sphaericus in new localities from La Plata River led to a reevaluation of the species using a taxonomic integrative approach. Despite observed morphological differences, molecular analysis confirmed that Pomphorhynchus individuals are conspecific with high phenotypical plasticity. This species is the first South American species to be analyzed at a DNA level, with molecular analysis relating it to P. bulbocolli and P. purhepechus.

Ultrastructure and histochemistry of the scolex of two Neotropical proteocephalidean species (Cestoda: Onchoproteocephalidea)

Summary: This study provides a first-time description of the internal ultrastructure of the scolex and the histochemical composition of the apical glands in two South American proteocephalidean cestodes. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy were employed to observe the tegumental ultrastructure, while histochemical techniques were used to determine the types of gland secretion. Two types of glands were identified in the scolex, and the microtriches pattern for one species was confirmed, while for the other species, it was described for the first time. The presence of sensory receptors and the systematic value of certain characters were also discussed.

A new species of Hedruris Nitzsch, 1821 (Nematoda: Hedruridae) parasitic in eel Synbranchus marmoratus Bloch (Synbranchiformes: Synbranchidae) from Argentina, Neotropical Region

Summary: During a parasitological survey, a new species of Hedruris genus was discovered in the stomach of Synbranchus marmoratus Bloch from the Parana Guazu River, Parana River basin in Argentina. The new species, Hedruris anguila sp. nov., is morphologically distinct from other Hedruris species. This is the first time that a member of the family Hedruridae has been found parasitizing a species of Synbranchidae.

Summary: This paper describes a new parasitic genus called Diegloglossidium maradonai, which was found in the intestine of Hoplosternum littorale in the La Plata River basin. The genus is morphologically similar to members of Alloglossidiidae and Macroderoidiidae, but can be differentiated by certain morphological features. Molecular analysis also confirms its classification in the Alloglossidiidae family. The presence of a deeply lobed ovary is one of its notable characteristics.
