Whenever shaken baby syndrome is suspected, medico-legal investigations and clinical diagnostic measures are of outstanding importance. In surviving as well as in fatal cases it is crucial to elucidate all circumstances of the case as meticulously as possible and to gather all available medical information. Clinical medical disciplines (pediatrics, ophthalmology, radiology and others) play an important role in the diagnostic approach. The forensic examinations described underline the responsibility and value of forensic medicine in the network involving the interdisciplinary cooperation with clinical medicine and the investigating authorities.
