Summary: The routine use of patient-reported outcome measures in in-center hemodialysis units did not substantially improve patient-clinician communication. Qualitative data suggest implementation challenges, including limited clarity of purpose and perceived limited value, that have limited the effectiveness of the intervention.

Summary: There are gaps in understanding and attitudes between chronic pain patients and primary care providers, with patients focusing more on functional goals and behavioral treatment, while PCPs feel dissatisfied with providing optimal quality of chronic pain care. Recognition of these gaps could support high-quality communication and interventional strategies for better patient-centered care.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of sepsis interprofessional education on medical and nursing students. The results showed that virtual telesimulation improved students' sepsis knowledge and team communication skills. The transfer of learning to clinical practice included a better understanding of each other's roles and the use of communication strategies. Although knowledge retention was not long-term, virtual telesimulation played a critical role in sepsis training.

Summary: This study explores the association between perceived patient-centered communication (PCC) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in ovarian cancer patients. Findings suggest that the association between PCC and HRQoL may be partially explained by differences in perceived support for psychosocial concerns and self-management.

Summary: This article presents an implementation and effectiveness evaluation plan for a novel medical improv workshop called Alda Healthcare Experience (AHE), designed to improve interprofessional communication skills among healthcare professionals. The study will use mixed-methods to assess the impact of the AHE workshop on communication, stress, and professional fulfillment, and examine factors and barriers to effective implementation. The AHE program aims to enhance healthcare communication and reduce worker burnout, and rigorous evaluations are necessary for scalability.

Summary: This study examined patients' perception of empathy in primary care consultations delivered by telephone. The findings showed that patients generally perceive good levels of clinical empathy in telephone consultations, although slightly lower compared to face-to-face consultations. Additionally, the study identified specific features of telephone consultations that can shape clinical empathy, including the setting for an empathic encounter, feeling connected, and being acknowledged.

Summary: Through this study, we have conceptualized five team-based patient-centered measurement methods. These methods can provide greater clarity of care-team roles and responsibilities, guide the incorporation of patient-centered measurement into ongoing provider-patient interactions, evaluate a team's readiness toward digital tool adoption, and engage teams in patient-centered quality improvement. These methods also promote patient-provider interactions, validate patient perspectives of their care, and evaluate the quality of patient-centered care.

Summary: The study aims to explore the perspectives of intensive care patients' family members and clinicians on conveying information during family-clinician conversations. The findings show that all groups prefer face-to-face communication, the ask-tell-ask method, recipient design, and explaining medical terminology. The family members also emphasize the importance of bedside manners and written information.

Summary: This study aimed to explore clinician-patient engagement during medical emergency team (MET) reviews and the patient experience. It used a convergent mixed-methods design and collected data through observations, medical record audits, and interviews. The findings showed that there was infrequent clinician-patient engagement during MET reviews, and patients had limited understanding of the review. However, most patients felt supported and safe.

Summary: Shadow coaching improves provider-patient interactions, but these improvements erode over time. Re-coaching can improve patient experience better than initial coaching, but the gains from re-coaching also erode. Coaching should occur every 6 to 12 months to maintain behaviors and scores.

Summary: This study explored the impact of de-implementation of low-value care on the patient-clinician relationship. Although some participants had difficulty understanding the concept of low-value care, most believed that the removal of low-value care would not negatively affect their relationship with their clinician because they trusted their clinician's guidance.
