Summary: Skin damage is a common and important toxicity during and after radiation therapy. This study found associations between skin erythema and obesity, type of surgery, axillary dissection, taxane-based chemotherapy, and the irradiation technique. Risk factors for fibrosis included age at diagnosis, obesity, tobacco, and the use of a boost. The use of IMRT technique decreased the occurrence of skin erythema.

Summary: This review assessed the quality and efficacy of tools used in scoring radiation dermatitis in breast cancer patients and found that tools assessing clinician-reported outcomes had moderate correlation with biophysical parameter measurements, but low correlation with patient-reported outcomes. Most commonly used tools were found to be either insufficient or indeterminate in their measurement properties.

Summary: The study evaluated the subjective perceptions and experiences of skin toxicity in women undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy for breast cancer, revealing that the treatment group had lower levels of pain and higher levels of relief during treatment, while skin-related quality of life worsened over time. Additionally, the findings highlighted the importance of integrating clinical evaluations of radiodermatitis with patients' subjective experiences in interventional studies, and provided preliminary evidence supporting the usefulness of a newly developed topical product as supportive care.

Summary: This review systematically examined the changes in skin toxicity following breast cancer radiotherapy using ultrasound. The results showed significant ultrasonographic changes in the irradiated skin, with the most common change being skin thickening. Other changes such as skin thinning and decreased subcutaneous fat were also observed. However, more research is needed to validate these findings.

Summary: The study investigated the association between chemotherapy before whole breast irradiation (WBI) and toxic effects or cosmetic outcome. Chemotherapy before conventional WBI (CWBI) was associated with increased moist desquamation, while chemotherapy before hypofractionated WBI (HWBI) was not associated with higher rates of any toxic effects. Patients receiving chemotherapy prior to either CWBI or HWBI had comparable rates of acute breast pain and impaired cosmetic outcome at 1 year. These findings support the use of HWBI after chemotherapy.

Summary: This retrospective analysis compared the toxicity and oncological outcome of IORT and SIB as tumor bed boost after breast conserving surgery. The results showed that the two groups had similar local control and late toxicity, but the IORT group had a slight increase in acute toxicity.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to review data on breast cancer and radiation-induced skin reactions in patients with skin of color, and objective measurements of skin pigmentation in the assessment of radiation dermatitis. The results showed worse radiation dermatitis outcomes in African American patients, although there are inconsistent findings across studies. There is currently a lack of prospective and randomized studies that objectively describe pigmentation changes in skin of color.

Summary: Adjuvant whole breast radiation therapy after breast-conserving surgery is the standard of care for early-stage breast cancer. This study found that African American individuals are at higher risk for treatment-related toxic effects and explored factors related to toxic effects, such as breast size and radiation dose.

Summary: The number of patients diagnosed with breast cancer and cardiovascular disease is increasing, and radiotherapy still plays a key role in breast cancer treatment. Cardiotoxicity is a significant side effect of radiotherapy, which can result in various cardiovascular diseases, with atherosclerosis being the most common. The management of these patients requires an interdisciplinary team to achieve maximum therapeutic effect and minimize cardiovascular toxicity. This review will summarize the current incidence, risk factors, mechanisms, and follow-up of radiotherapy-induced cardiovascular toxicity.

Summary: Skin reaction is a common toxicity during oncology management, especially in radiotherapy. The prevalence of erythema and fibrosis varied over time, with erythema decreasing to 2% at 60 months and fibrosis remaining stable at around 19%. Factors such as obesity, surgery type, and tumor phenotype were associated with the onset of skin toxicities.

Summary: This study evaluated the robustness of five planning strategies in free-breathing breast hypofractionated radiotherapy with respect to positional variations. The results showed that IMRTePTV performed best at maintaining high target coverage with increasing isocenter shift, while IMRThybrid-flash would be adequate with positional uncertainty <5 mm.

Summary: In recent years, the management of advanced colorectal cancer has greatly improved with integrated strategies, including stereotactic radiation therapy (SRT). SRT has been shown to be a safe and effective option, particularly in oligo-metastatic CRC, with the ability to induce regression of tumors in non-irradiated regions through stimulation of anti-tumor immune effects. The PRELUDE-1 study aims to evaluate the genetic and immunologic evolutions on tumor cancer/host cells induced by SRT in lung-limited omCRC through liquid biopsies and Next Generation Sequencing.
