Summary: The study described maternal smoking trends in France from 1972 to 2016, finding relatively stable proportions of mothers quitting smoking but high proportions of smokers during pregnancy. Smoking in the 3rd trimester from 2010 to 2016 was associated with lower education level and income, but the association with age, country of birth, and parity varied.

Summary: The multidisciplinary smoking cessation clinics in Thailand have been proven effective in helping smokers quit smoking. The clinics had a higher success rate for smokers with cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This study suggests that including multidisciplinary smoking cessation clinics in the universal health care benefits package would be beneficial.

Summary: Smoking is the leading cause of preventable morbidity and mortality, and nurses have the potential to play a significant role in smoking cessation interventions. However, their capacity is often underutilized, especially in rural and remote areas such as Australia where smoking rates are higher and access to healthcare is limited. To address this issue, training in smoking cessation should be included in the nursing curriculum, and greater emphasis should be placed on educating nursing students about smoking cessation strategies and resources.

Summary: This study evaluated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of pregnant women in China with different smoking statuses. The results showed that pre-pregnancy smoking was associated with a lower HRQoL and a higher incidence of depression/anxiety problems in pregnant women. Smoking cessation during pregnancy did not significantly improve the HRQoL of pregnant Chinese women. Among ex-smokers, a higher cigarette consumption was correlated with a lower HRQoL during pregnancy.

Summary: Smoking prevalence is higher among adults with mental health disorders (MHDs) compared to those without MHDs, and they face greater difficulty in quitting. This study analyzed the engagement trends and outcomes of MHD-endorsing tobacco quitline participants. Significant differences were found between groups with and without MHDs in terms of demographics and tobacco use patterns. MHD individuals were more likely to participate in quitline programs, receive more intensive services, and use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) during their treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a prognostic scoring tool to predict loss to follow-up (LTFU) among TB patients who smoke, in order to improve successful TB treatment outcomes. Using longitudinal data from the Malaysian Tuberculosis Information System (MyTB) database, a simple prognostic score (T-BACCO SCORE) was constructed. The model exhibited fair discrimination and good calibration, making it a reliable tool to predict the risk of LTFU among TB patients who smoke.
