Summary: This study aims to predict the efficacy of herbal medicine using machine learning models and evaluate the effectiveness of treating metabolic abnormalities based on variables extracted from phenotypic information. The prediction model for HDL cholesterol level showed the highest AUC value among the four metabolic risk factors, indicating its potential for accurately predicting herbal medicine efficacy.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of insulin resistance on cardiometabolic risk factors among adolescents in China and developed an anthropometry-based predictive model. The results showed a strong association between insulin resistance and cardiometabolic risk and presented a predictive nomogram. This has important implications for health counseling and self-risk assessments.

Summary: The study aimed to summarize the relationship between ALS and its genetic and non-genetic risk factors. Results showed that exposure to heavy metals, pesticides, solvents, previous head trauma, military service, stroke, magnetic field, and hypertension were significant risk factors for ALS, while the use of antidiabetic drugs, high BMI, living in urban areas, diabetes, and kidney disease decreased the risk. In addition, several ALS-related gene mutations were evaluated and ranked in terms of frequency. Therefore, effective intervention for risk exposure and modification of lifestyle could potentially prevent ALS, and accurate detection of genetic mutations is crucial for ALS identification.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to identify clinical and radiological risk factors for preoperative cerebral infarction in infants under 4 years old with MMD. The results showed that the preoperative MRA grade and age at diagnosis were independent predictors of infarction at diagnosis. The study also found that the onset of infarction, preoperative MRA grade, and duration from diagnosis to surgery were predictive factors for infarction while awaiting surgery. Additionally, family history, preoperative MRA grade, age at diagnosis, and duration from diagnosis to surgery were predictive factors for total infarction.

Summary: This study investigated the factors contributing to racial differences in gait between African Americans and white Americans. The results showed that in females, Q-angle and ankle dorsiflexion strength explained the differences in gait, indicating that both innate and modifiable factors play a role in gait disparities. These findings highlight the importance of including racially diverse normative gait databases in research studies and identify potential intervention targets for reducing racial health disparities.

Summary: Both anthropometric and body composition indices are associated with metabolic risk factors, but anthropometric indices such as waist-to-height ratio and waist circumference are generally better predictors for certain risk factors, particularly in men for hypertension and hyperlipidemia with regards to waist-to-height ratio, and in women for diabetes and hypo-HDL cholesterolemia with regards to waist circumference.

Summary: This study investigated the association between inflammatory markers and breast cancer risk. The findings suggest a potential dual effect of obesity on breast cancer risk among premenopausal and postmenopausal women, with leptin, leptin-to-adiponectin ratio, and CRP showing different associations in each group. Further research is warranted to better understand these relationships.

Summary: This study explored the prevalence of subclinical tuberculosis (TB) and the association with the Beijing genotype in Suzhou. It was found that approximately one-fifth of TB patients were subclinical, and microbiological diagnostics could detect the presence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in one-third of these cases. Subclinical TB patients tend to have lower neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio values and are more likely to be infected with non-Beijing genotype strains.

Summary: This study found no significant difference in the dietary intake of carotenoids, tocopherols, and flavonoids between patients with gastrointestinal system and non-gastrointestinal system cancers. However, patients with gastrointestinal system cancer had a significantly higher total radical-trapping antioxidant parameter (TRAP) compared to patients with non-gastrointestinal system cancer. Serum inflammatory markers (CRP and NLR) were inversely associated with dietary total antioxidant capacity (dTAC).

Summary: Obesity and central adiposity play a significant role in elevating inflammatory cytokine levels in diabetic patients, as evidenced by correlations between serum concentrations of CRP and TNF-alpha with anthropometric measurements such as waist circumference. Serum adiponectin levels were lower in diabetic patients compared to healthy subjects, indicating a potential link between adiposity and inflammation in Type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the oxidative stress status of patients with schizophrenia and examine the relationship between dietary total antioxidant capacity (dTAC) and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG). The results showed that patients with schizophrenia had lower values of dietary ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP-1, FRAP-2), Trolox equivalence antioxidant capacity (TEAC), and oxygen radical absorbance capacity (H-ORAC) compared to the healthy controls. However, serum 8-OHdG levels were similar in both groups. Therefore, nutritional interventions, especially sufficient intake of dietary antioxidants, should be encouraged in patients with schizophrenia.

Summary: This study evaluates the relationship between dietary and serum advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) with serum inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers in breast cancer (BC) patients. The study suggests a limited correlation between dietary and serum AGEs with inflammation and oxidative stress biomarkers in BC patients. Treatment appears to decrease the levels of inflammation and oxidative stress biomarkers, but dietary and serum AGE levels do not correspondingly decline. HER2- subtype is associated with higher dietary and serum AGEs as well as higher inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the sustainability of the national diet in Turkey and its association with diet quality, dietary requirements, and sociodemographic factors. The results showed that the dietary greenhouse gas emissions (GHGEs) and water footprint (WF) in Turkey were lower than the world average. Higher GHGEs and WF were associated with higher nutrient intake, but lower diet quality and dietary diversity scores. These findings could contribute to the development of dietary guidelines promoting sustainable choices.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the nutrition and examine the relationship between athletic performance and body composition in soccer referees. The participants were 120 male soccer referees, and sprint tests and physical fitness tests were conducted. It was found that body composition differed between city and class referees, and there were correlations between fat mass and test scores. Waist circumference also showed correlations with test scores. Nutritional recommendations for soccer referees should consider individual body composition, training intensity, and match frequency.
