Summary: The purpose of this pilot study was to test an educational program guided by the Health Promotion Model for community-dwelling patients with hypertension. The results showed that the program led to a reduction in blood pressure and improvement in self-efficacy, and the participants were highly satisfied with it. The educational program was found to be feasible and acceptable and may be incorporated into current hypertension management practices at the community level.

Summary: This research aims to coproduce a diet, physical activity and weight management programme suitable for UK black and Asian populations. The study will be conducted in three stages, using a systems perspective, behavior change theory and coproduction methods. The first stage involves conducting interviews to understand the experiences and intervention needs of diverse South Asian ethnic groups. The second stage includes exploring potential intervention components and developing prototype materials, while the third stage involves documenting the intervention description.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a community-based integrative programme for reducing hypertension incidence among high-risk populations in Shanghai, China. The results showed that the programme was able to lower the incidence of hypertension and improve knowledge and attitudes towards hypertension. This suggests that community-based management should be scaled up to reduce the burden of hypertension and cardiovascular disease in China.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of metformin use on the risk of chronic urticaria in patients with type 2 diabetes. The results showed a significantly higher risk of chronic urticaria development among metformin users compared to nonusers. The risk was even higher for patients with longer duration of metformin use. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of aspirin and clopidogrel on the risk of hip fracture among type 2 diabetes patients. The study found that higher dosage and longer duration of antiplatelet drugs could be associated with lower fracture risk, while lower dosage and shorter duration could be associated with higher fracture risk. The best regimen to prevent hip fracture was the use of aspirin and clopidogrel for at least 3 years.

Summary: This modeling study examines the effectiveness of different screening strategies, contact tracing, and the severity of novel epidemic outbreaks for various population sizes. The study finds that universal testing has limited impact on reducing COVID-19 cases when rigorous contact tracing and symptomatic screening are implemented. However, contact tracing and symptomatic screening are effective in reducing cases by identifying subclinical cases.
