Summary: This study aims to examine the prevalence and risk factors of suicidal ideation (SI) in postpartum women with and without depression. The results showed that the prevalence of SI in women with depression was 51.8%, while it was 3.3% in women without depression. Younger age and low family support were common risk factors for both groups of women.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate and model the interactions between various risk and protective factors for suicidal ideation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bayesian network analyses were used to analyze cross-sectional data collected in Austria and the United Kingdom. The results showed high predictive accuracy of the Bayesian network models, explaining almost 50% of the variability in suicidal ideation. 15 interrelated risk and protective factors were identified, with 7 factors replicated in both countries.

Summary: Addressing the issue of suicidal thoughts in unmarried adolescents in India, this study reveals that risky sexual behaviors such as having multiple partners, early sexual debut, sexual activity, and pornography consumption are associated with an increased likelihood of suicidal thoughts. Healthcare practitioners should provide special attention and care to adolescents engaging in these risky behaviors.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) and identify its risk factors among mothers attending well-baby clinics in Abha city, Southwest Saudi Arabia. A total of 228 Saudi women were recruited and assessed using the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and socio-demographic questionnaires. The study found a high prevalence rate of PPD (43.4%) and identified family conflict and lack of support as strong predictors of PPD. Promoting PPD screening and raising awareness of potential risk factors among women, spouses, and families are recommended preventive strategies.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between maternal age, parity, gestational number, newborn gender and postpartum depressive symptoms. The results showed that postpartum depressive symptoms decreased with advancing age. First-time mothers reported higher rates of depressive symptoms. Twin births were associated with a higher symptom burden than singleton births, and mothers of twins in the oldest age group reported the greatest burden. There was no clinically significant difference in rates of depressive symptoms between mothers of singleton girls and boys.

Summary: Pubertal hormonal events play a significant role in the development of brain systems related to social stress regulation, which is critical to consider in understanding adolescent suicide risk. Investigating factors such as pubertal timing may help deepen the understanding of sex differences in the mechanisms underlying suicidal thoughts and behaviors in adolescents.

Summary: Postpartum depression is a serious mood disorder that occurs after childbirth and can have lifelong consequences for women and their families. It is influenced by various risk factors, including environmental and genetic factors. Gene-environment interactions play a role in postpartum depression, as evidenced by studies on genes related to neurotransmitters, the HPA axis, and the kynurenine pathway. However, the conclusions regarding these risk factors, especially genetic factors, are not consistent, and further research is needed to understand the heritability and susceptibility of postpartum depression.
