Summary: This study identified two trajectories of depressive symptoms in North Korean defectors, with predictors of the high/increasing symptom group including being female, low use of mental health services, generalized anxiety disorder, social phobia, and alcohol dependence. Although PTSD was not a significant predictor, self-reported PTSD symptom scores were high in the high/increasing symptom group.

Summary: North Korean defectors experience psychological symptoms such as depression and anxiety, with heart rate variability (HRV) potentially serving as an objective neurobiological index of autonomic nervous system disorder and reaction to stress in this population. HRV parameters have been found to correlate with clinical measures, suggesting potential for using HRV in assessing psychological disorders in NKDs.

Summary: Approximately 30% of individuals with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) experience persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). Personality traits such as neuroticism, openness to experience, and conscientiousness are associated with more severe PPCS and lower return to work (RTW) in patients with mild-to-moderate TBI. However, after controlling for PPCS, personality traits are no longer significantly associated with RTW.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between loneliness, acculturation stress, and post-traumatic growth among female North Korean defectors. The findings suggest that loneliness negatively predicts post-traumatic growth and mediates the association between acculturation stress and growth. Additionally, the study shows that neighborhood social cohesion moderates the mediation effect of loneliness on the relationship between acculturation stress and post-traumatic growth.
