Summary: A sulfated galactoglucan (3-SS) with antiproliferative and anti-inflammatory activities was discovered in Antrodia cinnamomea. Chemical identification revealed that 3-SS is a 2-O sulfated 1,3-/1,4-linked galactoglucan with a two-residual 1,6-O-beta-Glc branch on the 3-O position of a Glc. The effects of 3-SS on inflammation inhibition and cell proliferation were found to occur via AKT, ERK1/2, and p-38 signaling in RAW264.7 macrophage cells and H1975 lung cancer cells.

Summary: In this study, a 7.9 kDa Ac-SPS named ZnF3 was identified and found to have dual anti-cancer functions. It can inhibit cancer cells and activate macrophages. ZnF3 inhibits lung cancer cells by inducing subG1 population and apoptosis, and activates macrophages via induction of TNF-alpha and IL-6 secretion, NO production and phagocytosis.

Summary: This study isolated and purified three polysaccharides from the cell wall of Antrodia cinnamomea mycelia, each with different structures and antioxidant activities. Despite variations in sugar composition and glycosidic bonds, all polysaccharides had molecular weights over 10(7) g/mol and exhibited a spherical conformation in NaNO3 solution. The AC-MCA and AC-MHA showed stronger in vitro antioxidant activity compared to AC-MHW, possibly due to their higher content of 1,3-glucosyl residues.

Summary: This study extracted and purified exopolysaccharides from Antrodia cinnamomea (AEPS), which primarily consist of three distinct polysaccharides. AEPS showed anti-inflammatory properties and regulated the gut microbiota. These findings provide a potential option for developing novel multifunctional carbohydrate prebiotics.

Summary: This study analyzed the metabolomic profiles of different phenotypes of Antrodia cinnamomea and examined their relationship with the color appearance of fruiting bodies. The results showed that red, yellow, and white AC can synthesize diverse structures of triterpenoids, with red AC having higher contents of triterpenoids and different unannotated metabolites compared to yellow and white AC.

Summary: This study found that Antrodin C, a maleimide derivative compound isolated from the endemic fungus of Taiwan, Antrodia cinnamomea, is a potential chemoprotective agent. It was discovered that Antrodin C induces cell apoptosis and inhibits cell proliferation and growth by activating the ROS/AKT/ERK/P38 signaling pathway. This study provides important insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the therapeutic potential of Antrodin C in human colorectal cancer.

Summary: Antrodia cinnamomea, a rare medicinal fungus in Taiwan, has strong antitumor and anti-inflammatory effects. A novel protein called ACAP was isolated and purified from the fungus and showed significant antitumor activity against three tumor cell lines. ACAP induced apoptosis in Hep G2 cells, upregulated p53, and downregulated caspase-3 expression. These findings suggest that ACAP has potential as a therapeutic agent or functional food.

Summary: This study reported the isolation and structural elucidation of three potent anti-inflammatory compounds from Antrodia cinnamomea. One of the compounds, antcin A, was shown to suppress pro-inflammatory biomolecule release by down-regulating gene expression. This research provides scientific evidence for the development of dietary supplements from Antrodia cinnamomea based on its anti-inflammatory constituents.

Summary: Dengue, a mosquito-borne disease caused by dengue virus, currently lacks effective and safe therapeutics. This study found that extracts from Antrodia cinnamomea, a precious medical mushroom in Taiwan, exhibited anti-DENV effects by suppressing viral infection and reducing inflammatory cytokine levels. The extracts also increased the levels of the antiviral cytokine interferon-alpha. These findings provide insights into the potential use of A. cinnamomea extracts as therapeutic agents against DENV infection, but further investigation into the underlying mechanisms is needed.
