Summary: Aquaculture feed formulation is transitioning from fish meal and fish oil to plant-based ingredients, impacting the levels and forms of minerals in the diet. This study examined the effects of dietary electrolyte balance (dEB) and feeding time on chyme characteristics and water fluxes along the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) of rainbow trout. The results showed that dEB and time after feeding influenced chyme characteristics, water fluxes, pH, and sodium fluxes in the stomach and proximal intestine. Additionally, the digestibility of dry matter and crude protein, as well as mineral digestibility, varied in different gut segments, with the middle and distal intestine being most affected.

Summary: Exercise induces changes in blood acid-base status, which are related to the duration and intensity of the activity. Prolonged activity and transportation result in significant losses of water and electrolyte from the body, mainly through sweating. To replace these losses, it is recommended that horses consume electrolyte solutions. This study investigated the effects of different volumes of water and oral electrolyte supplementation on the acid-base state in horses during exercise. The results showed that small volumes of supplementation had minimal or no effect, while the larger volume of electrolyte supplement abolished the alkalosis that occurred during long-lasting submaximal exercise.

Summary: As an important carbon-neutral energy carrier, green hydrogen produced through water electrolysis using renewable electricity has gained global attention. Polymer electrolyte water electrolyzers (PEWEs) have the potential to play a key role in the green hydrogen market due to their superior performance. However, the slow progress in the development of the membrane electrode assembly (MEA), an essential component of PEWE, hinders the advancement of PEWEs. This review discusses recent progress in MEA materials and design strategies, focusing on cost, activity, and stability of catalysts, distribution and thickness of ionomers, and ion transport efficiency of ion exchange membranes (IEMs). The effects of all components and interlayer interfaces on ions, electrons, and mass transfer in MEA, and consequently, the performance of PEWEs are analyzed. Perspectives on MEA development through optimization of catalyst activity and IEM stability, interface contact between adjacent components, and performance evaluation methods are proposed.

Summary: Rapid weight loss is common but potentially harmful in mixed martial arts, with a lack of officially collected data on its prevalence. Data collected by the California State Athletic Commission between 2015 and 2018 on 512 professional mixed martial artists showed that 98% of athletes gained weight between weigh-in and competition, with male and female athletes increasing body mass by 8.1% and 8.0% respectively. Athletes from leading international promotions gained more absolute body mass, suggesting a larger magnitude of rapid weight gain in more experienced and/or successful fighters.

Summary: This study reports the presence of pyrogallol in wastewater in Egypt for the first time. Acute and sub-acute toxicity experiments were conducted to evaluate the toxic effects of pyrogallol on catfish. The results showed that pyrogallol exposure caused morphological changes, hematological and biochemical alterations, indicating potential risks to aquatic species.

Summary: This study found that a strategy of conservative fluid administration and active deresuscitation is feasible in critical illness, reducing fluid balance compared with usual care. While clinical outcomes did not significantly differ between the two groups, larger, adequately powered trials are needed to investigate the clinical effectiveness of conservative fluid strategies in critically ill patients.

Summary: In this study, a Co1Al2(OH)(m)/g-CNx composite material with superior OER activity in alkaline conditions was reported. The catalyst exhibited low overpotential, high mass activity, and remarkable stability compared to commercial IrO2. The two-dimensional sheet morphology, higher electrochemical surface area, and strong interaction between the support and Co1Al2(OH)(m) LDH nanosheets contribute to the superior performance and durability of the composite material.

Summary: This study identified rare genetic mutations in the prostaglandin 12 receptor gene (PTGIR) that are enriched among FMD patients and found in SCAD patients, suggesting a role for prostacyclin signaling in non-atherosclerotic arterial stenosis and dissection. The biological effects of these mutations on human prostacyclin receptor (hIP) function were characterized, showing severe impairments in vitro.

Summary: A study identified CYP2U1 pathogenic variants in PXE patients with neurological symptoms who were unresolved by ABCC6 genetic screening, expanding the phenotype of SPG56 and highlighting its overlap with PXE. The pathophysiology of ABCC6 and CYP2U1 should be explored further to understand their respective roles and potential interaction in ectopic mineralization.
