Summary: A new class of ionic liquid containing AlCl3 catalysts was synthesized and used in 1-decene oligomerization to produce PAOs, offering a less-toxic alternative to traditional AlCl3 and BF3 catalysts. Different alkyl chlorides were employed to tune the catalytic efficiency, resulting in PAOs with varying microstructure and flow properties. The use of IL/AlCl3 system with reduced AlCl3 loading and proper selection of IL ligand allowed for control of PAO microstructure, showcasing significant achievements in the suggested catalytic systems.

Summary: A method for synthesizing fluorine-based polymer particles as additive agents in ionic liquid-based lubricants for vacuum is proposed. This method can protect the IL from light damage during polymerization. Photocurable materials were selected as solid lubricants, and the synthesis method, details of the polymer particles, and their effect on lubrication performance are described. This method reduces friction coefficient and does not affect the outgassing of the lubricant under high vacuum.

Summary: Microalgae-based biotechnology for antibiotic removal is a promising and environmentally friendly method. This study investigated the mechanism of erythromycin removal by Chlorella pyrenoidosa and its impact on microalgae's ecotoxic response. Biodegradation was found to be the main removal mechanism, while high concentrations of erythromycin inhibited microalgae growth and led to the production of more toxic degradation products.

Summary: In this study, imidazolyl dinitrile amine salt was used as an intercalation agent and modifier to achieve the exfoliation and modification of graphite into graphene. Surface/interface techniques were employed to ensure successful preparation and high-density modification of the graphene. The modified graphene showed improved tribological behaviors and stability in polyethylene glycol 200, attributed to its thinner size and protective layer on mating interfaces.

Summary: The tribological behavior of eutectic systems composed of polyethylene glycol and an ionic liquid was studied. The results showed that these systems exhibited good lubrication performance and effectively reduced wear, especially under high loads. This was attributed to the interactions between polyethylene glycol and the ionic liquid, which enhanced the stability of the adsorbed layer and provided better protection for the sliding surfaces.

Summary: This study investigated the high temperature lubrication effect of different alkaline carbonates (high-temperature ionic liquid) and found that the lubrication properties are alkaline species dependent, with potassium carbonate showing better lubrication than sodium and lithium carbonate. At high temperatures, alkaline carbonates decompose and react with iron oxide to form alkali ferrites with promising anti-wear properties. Li2Fe3O4 exhibits better lubricity compared to NaFeO2 and KFeO2.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of a sequential Anammox zeolite-biofilter for the treatment of drinking water. The results showed that high removal efficiencies of ammonium and nitrite could be achieved with low filter velocities. Lowering substrate concentrations and operating temperatures had minimal impact on nitrogen removal efficiencies. The coupling of zeolite and Anammox processes influenced the ratio of nitrite to ammonium, and reliable process monitoring could be achieved through electrical conductivity measurements. This technology has the potential to significantly improve drinking water quality worldwide and is especially suited for decentralized use in threshold and developing countries.

Summary: Heterocyclic polyaromatic hydrocarbons (heterocyclic PAHs) are a common presence in the environment, but they have received less attention and comprehensive assessment than homocyclic PAHs in terms of their environmental behavior. Moreover, the available physicochemical data for heterocyclic PAHs are limited. To address this, the physicochemical properties of heterocyclic PAHs were experimentally determined, and structure-property relationships were established. The data obtained allowed for the evaluation of predictive models and a screening-level comparative hazard assessment of both heterocyclic and homocyclic PAHs.

Summary: The excessive use of ammonium fertilizer and leakage poses a threat to aquatic environments worldwide. This study focused on evaluating and modeling breakthrough curves for NH4+ in zeolite-filled, fixed-bed columns for drinking water treatment. The Freundlich sorption model successfully described the NH4+ sorption, while unfavorable sorption was observed for K+. Intraparticle diffusion was identified as the rate limiting step for NH4+ and K+ breakthrough. The use of tap, river, and groundwater matrices decreased the treated bed volumes compared to ultrapure water, with K+ and dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations being the main parameters affecting NH4+ sorption.
