Summary: This study assessed the associations between fruit consumption and cardiometabolic risk factors in elderly individuals with metabolic syndrome. It found that higher total fruit consumption was associated with lower waist circumference, fasting glucose levels, and LDL-cholesterol, but higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure levels. Additionally, the associations varied based on the color of fruits consumed.

Summary: This study aims to compare the prevalence of comorbidities in women versus men hospitalised with gout in Spain. Women with gout were significantly older and had a higher prevalence of obesity, dyslipidaemia, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, dementia, urinary tract infection, and concurrent rheumatic disease. A decision tree algorithm was constructed to predict the sex of patients with gout based on age and comorbidities alone.

Summary: This cross-sectional study investigated the association between carotid intima-media thickness (c-IMT) values and periodontal and peri-implant diseases in patients with hypertension. The study found a positive association between mucosal/gingival inflammation and subclinical atherosclerosis, as well as the presence of carotid plaque. These associations were independent of traditional cardiovascular risk factors.

Summary: In long-term juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM), patients showed altered adipose tissue distribution and subclinical cardiac dysfunction. Leptin levels were higher in JDM patients compared to controls, and apelin-12 and visfatin were higher in JDM-active patients compared to JDM-inactive patients.

Summary: The increased consumption of unhealthy processed foods, particularly those high in sodium, is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Nutrition information on packaged foods can help consumers choose products with lower sodium content and support government efforts to improve the healthiness of the food supply. However, this study found that most packaged foods in Nigeria provided only partial nutrition information, and only a small portion displayed a nutrient declaration that included all required nutrients. The findings highlight the need to improve the availability and consistency of nutrition information and introduce policies to reduce sodium content in the Nigerian food supply.

Summary: The reduced chronotropic response (CR) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with several cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors, inflammatory markers, and cardiorespiratory fitness. Future studies should investigate the effects of controlling these associated variables on CR in patients with RA.

Summary: This study explored the feasibility of using a self-rating scale to assess mental illness among online cardiology patients and compared the differences in anxiety and depression between online and offline patients. The study found that online patients were more likely to experience anxiety or depression compared to offline patients. Factors such as frequent online communication and watching live broadcasts were associated with better cooperation from online patients.

Summary: This study found that patients taking antihypertensive drugs have a heightened physiological response to attachment-related stressors, including cardiovascular, autonomic, and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis responses. This suggests that even with sufficient medication, patients with hypertension still face a substantial risk of hyper-reactivity, indicating a need for new ways to reduce this risk.

Summary: This study examined the relationships between different types of supportive social ties and autonomic nervous system (ANS) function in a German cohort of community-dwelling older adults. The findings suggest that supportive friendship ties are significantly positively associated with individuals who are either not married or above retirement age, while supportive family ties are significantly positively associated with individuals below retirement age.

Summary: Depression in a partner can create significant burden, which is addressed by the Partner Burden in Depression (PBD) questionnaire, measuring observed symptoms and related burden. The PBD is validated in Germany with good psychometric properties and sensitivity to changes, predicting depressive symptoms over time. The PBD provides insights into the effects of depression on partners in a concise and practical way.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV), cortisol, and the symptom course in response to short-term psychotherapy. The results suggest that HRV reflects an individual's adaptive capacity and patients with reduced HRV may require additional psychotherapeutic sessions to achieve the same symptom improvements as those with higher HRV.

Summary: This comprehensive meta-analysis examines the association between measures of heart rate variability (HRV) and the risk of disease and mortality. The results show that lower HRV parameter values are significant predictors of higher mortality across different populations and recording lengths. The analysis confirms a strong association between HRV and all-cause mortality. Additionally, a sub-analysis highlights that individuals with the lowest quartile of 5-minute root mean square of successive differences (RMSSD) have a higher risk of mortality.

Summary: Excessive elevations of pro-inflammatory cytokines in COVID-19 can be reduced by slow-paced breathing, according to a clinical trial. Patients practicing slow-paced breathing had significantly lower levels of IL-6 compared to the control group, with no significant side effects. This study aims to differentiate the actor and partner effects of this association more comprehensively using two measures of relationship quality. The results show that the characteristics of relationship quality have different effects on depressive symptoms and system quality.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed and meta-analyzed the association between employees working in open-plan offices and sick leave compared to those in traditional cell offices. Five studies from 2008 to 2020 were included, with a total of 13,277 participants. The results showed that employees in small open-plan offices and various open-plan office solutions were more likely to take sick leave compared to those in cell offices. These findings are consistent with earlier reviews on the effects of open-plan offices on health and well-being. Future studies should focus on different office design solutions to balance the pros and cons of open-plan offices.

Summary: Music-imaginative Pain Treatment (MIPT) is a form of music therapy that aims to address pain experience and affective attitudes toward pain. This non-experimental study examined the direct effect mechanisms of MIPT through outcome measures on both physiological and subjective perception levels. The findings revealed a significant reduction in reported pain and changes in heart rate variability during the treatment. These results provide a physiological correlate to the psychological processes of the patients.

This study explores the mechanisms of CBCT-fC and additional therapeutic factors in women with depressive disorders. The results suggest that CBCT-fC increases emotional bond, social learning, and clarification of meaning over time, with women experiencing greater improvements in decentering and value clarification.
