Carbon black (CB)-filled high density polyethylene (HDPE) composites, incorporating with or without tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane (Tris), were prepared by melt blending. The effects of CB oxidation and Tris incorporation on the resistivity-temperature characters were studied. The negative temperature coefficient effect (NTC) effect and the isothermal variation of resistance with time were reduced by incorporating Tris, and oxidation of CB enhanced the effects of Tris addition. The reason lies in the increase of polarity resulting from CB oxidation and the interaction between Tris and CBs.
