Summary: In this research, a sustainable method was developed to prepare thermal insulator of polysiloxane-phenolic composite porous xerogel monoliths. The hazardous formaldehyde was replaced with terephthalaldehyde, and a simplified ambient drying process was applied. The composite xerogel monoliths showed low density, high mass retention rate at high temperature, and good thermal insulation properties.

Summary: A solid-phase extraction system was investigated for the extraction and recovery of rare-earth elements. Phenolic ion-exchange resins were synthesized using a non-toxic aromatic dialdehyde as a substitute for toxic formaldehyde. The resins showed a high ion-exchange capacity and the ability to back-extract the rare-earth elements using an acid solution.

Summary: Catalytic graphitization particles are widely used to improve the thermal stability and char yields of conventional phenolic resins. The direct addition of inorganic particles may cause phase separation and reduce the crosslinking density. In this study, a formaldehyde-free phenolic resin was synthesized using a non-hazardous dialdehyde, terephthalaldehyde (TPA). By co-curing ferrocenecarboxaldehyde (Fc) and the TPA resin, a high char yield modified resin was obtained with improved thermal properties due to the formation of a more ordered carbide structure.

Summary: In this study, a novel Fe3O4-terephthalaldehyde (Fe3O4-TERE) magnetic nanomaterial was fabricated using encapsulation and grafting technique, which effectively reduced the contamination risk of phenanthrene (PENE) and its degradation intermediate, 9-phenanthrol (9-PENE). The Fe3O4-TERE also demonstrated excellent regeneration performance and provided profound theoretical perspectives for analyzing the adsorption mechanism. This research proposed a promising fabrication strategy for removing and remediating polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contamination.

Summary: The study reports the ultrasound wave-induced synthesis of crosslinked chitosan hydrogels and compares their effectiveness in removing different types of dyes, with CAAT showing higher selectivity for anionic dyes. The adsorption capacity of CAAT was found to be higher than that of CAAG, and desorption studies demonstrated the favorable reusability potential of CAAT hydrogel for up to six cycles.

Summary: Here, we report a covalent organic framework supported metal-organic framework (COF-MOF) consisting of melamine and terephthalaldehyde as the COF and 1,2,4,5-tetrabenzenecarboxylic acid as the MOF, which serves as a porous catalyst for the one-pot preparation of derivatives of 2-aryl substituted 2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-one and 2,3-diphenyl-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-one. COF-MOF was characterized using FTIR, EDX, TGA, FESEM, XRD, and BET. This methodology offers several advantages, including solvent-free and eco-friendly conditions, high yield of the products, short reaction time, simple work-up procedure, and ease of recyclability of the catalyst.

Summary: Four new bis(thiosemicarbazones) were synthesized to obtain four dinuclear gold(I) complexes by reaction with AuI. The complexes showed high cytotoxic activity against ovarian cancer cell lines, with one complex potentially overcoming resistance to cisplatin. Additionally, the complexes did not exhibit significant inhibition against normal renal cells. dockng studies revealed that complex 4 had the best binding affinity and in vitro cytotoxicity.

Summary: Two types of long-chain conjugated Schiff bases and their iron salts were synthesized via the coordination polycondensation of p-phenylenediamine with glyoxal or terephthalaldehyde. The chemical structure of the obtained poly(Schiff bases) and their salts were evaluated using elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Thermal stability (TGA) and electrical conductivity of the materials were also investigated.
