Summary: The aging of natural rubber at high temperatures has a significant impact on its service lifetime. This study compared the microstructure and mechanical properties of semi-efficient vulcanized natural rubber/carbon black vulcanizates during thermo-oxidative aging at high temperatures (150-200 degrees C) and a moderate temperature (95 degrees C). The aging behavior at high temperatures showed a two-stage pattern, with an initial rapid decline and then a continuous rise in crosslinking density related to antioxidant depletion. Surface cracking observed during the second stage of high-temperature aging was discussed in terms of the grafting reaction of macromolecular radicals and thermal expansion. In contrast, aging at moderate temperatures showed a mild increase in crosslinking density and an oxidation mechanism dominated by peroxy radicals attacking double bonds. The mechanical properties during high-temperature aging depended on the competition between structural evolution and oxidation-induced chain scission.

Summary: In this study, a micro-mechanical model was proposed to describe the constitutive behavior of cross-linked polymeric systems under the effects of temperature and UV radiation. Different rates of chain scission and bond creation during aging can lead to changes in cross-link density and damage in the elastomer, resulting in a harder or softer matrix or even transitioning between hardening and softening. The proposed model is a generalized micromechanical model for both thermo-oxidative and photo-oxidative aging, with parameters based on temperature and UV radiation intensity.

Summary: This study explores the effects of accelerated aging on a polyurethane based adhesive, particularly focusing on the competition between thermo-oxidation and hydrolytic aging during hygrothermal exposure. Various tests were conducted on samples exposed to different environments, showing that the mechanical and environmental damage is a collaborative effect of all exposure environments involved. Chemical test outcomes confirmed the results obtained from mechanical tests.

Summary: In this study, organically modified Montmorillonite clay Cloisite 30B with polar moiety was used to prepare Hydroxyl terminated polybutadiene-clay nanocomposites, which showed promising functional utility as inhibitor materials in composite propellants. The nanocomposites containing Cloisite 30B exhibited desirable properties such as lower ablation rate and density, higher strain capability, and reduced smoke generation tendency compared to conventional fillers like Sb2O3. Furthermore, the interfacial bonding of HCN based inhibitors with Cloisite 30B filler was comparable or even superior to conventional inhibitors.

Summary: The effect of thermo-oxidative aging on the physical properties and microstructure of base and modified asphalts was studied. Various tests and analyses were conducted, including conventional index tests, dynamic shear rheology, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and gel permeation chromatography. The results showed that aging led to changes in the macro-physical indexes and microstructural properties, such as decreased penetration degree, increased softening point, improved high-temperature performance, increased consistency and hardness, increased initial modulus and glass transition temperature, decreased shear resistance, and degraded low-temperature performance. The anti-aging performance varied among different types of modified asphalts, with rubber-modified asphalt exhibiting the highest performance. The study also found changes in the functional group species and overall molecular weight of the asphalt after aging.

Summary: This paper presents a novel physics-informed multi-agents constitutive model for predicting the quasi-static constitutive behavior of cross-linked elastomers and the mechanical performance loss during environmental aging. The model, based on a data-driven machine learning engine, captures damages in the polymer matrix and changes in material behavior. It also simplifies the high-dimensional mapping problem into multiple 1D problems through a sequential order reduction method.

Summary: Isothermal aging of cylinder and wetting-type seals at 350 degrees C was investigated. The observation showed distinct iron oxides appearing over the metal/oxide layer interface for the cylinder-type seals, while excess iron oxides at the metal/oxide layer interface degraded the interface and led to glass detachment in the wetting-type seals.

Summary: In this work, the irreversible capacity losses of LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 under different electrochemical aging protocols are evaluated quantitatively. It is found that the origin of irreversible capacity losses can be divided into two types: heterogeneous degradation caused by low C-rate or high upper cut-off voltage cycling, and fast charging/discharging induced homogeneous capacity loss. This study offers detailed insights into the failure mechanism of Ni-rich cathodes and provides guidance on designing long-cycle life, high-reliability electrode materials.

Summary: Investigating the direct solid state polymerization of PA 612 salt, it was found that reactor design plays a critical role in bypassing the solid melt transition phenomena and maintaining solid state during the reaction. Fossil-based PA 612 products showed better end-group imbalance compared to bio-based ones, which is crucial for achieving high molecular weight in the polymerization process.

Summary: In this study, three fluoroalkyl trimethoxysilane (FATMS) additives with different chain lengths were incorporated into a two-component polyurethane clearcoat to improve its hydrophobic durability. The coatings modified with FATMS maintained their surface hydrophobicity under various conditions, but quickly lost it when exposed to both UV irradiation and/or high temperature with water. The results suggest that the FATMS route is more suitable for indoor applications at room temperature.

Summary: Green flame retardants have garnered attention for their environmental friendliness, but current options fall short in achieving high flame retardancy for flammable polymers and maintaining environmental protection. This study takes a two-pronged approach to address flame retardants and the flame-retardant process. An eco-friendly bio-based synergistic flame retardant (PAU), synthesized using phytic acid (PA) and urea (U), is used to create a flame retardant coating that can be directly applied to any surface shape using polydopamine as an adhesive. The resulting EPS-PAU exhibits excellent flame retardancy, smoke suppression, and light weight while only slightly increasing the density.
