Summary: In this study, the structural evolution and crystallization behavior of poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) during thermal degradation were systematically investigated. The results showed that the thermal degradation mechanism of PPS differed considerably in nitrogen and oxygen atmospheres, with oxygen accelerating the oxidation process.

Summary: This study investigates the synergistic effect of multiscale fillers on the kinetics of non-isothermal crystallization of polypropylene reinforced with microscale glass fibres and nanoscale halloysite nanotubes. The results show that the formation of critical nuclei size and stable nuclei is faster in nano- and hybrid composites due to the lower energy barrier. The kinetics of crystallization are best explained by Mo's model for hybrid composites, while Avrami and Ozawa models can explain the initial stages of crystallization. The dependence of effective activation energy on the extent of relative crystallization was explored using the Friedman model for micro-, nano-, and hybrid composites. X-ray diffraction analysis confirms the ability of HNT to induce alpha and beta crystals and the ability of multiscale fillers to reduce crystal sizes without affecting the standard lattice planes of neat polypropylene.

Summary: This paper investigates the hydrothermal aging behavior of short-cut glass fiber reinforced polyphenylene sulfide composites (PPS/GF). The study finds that water adsorption behavior can be well described by Fickian law and is strongly correlated with mechanical properties. The degradation of the interface plays a dominant role in the degradation of macroscopic mechanical properties.

Summary: The addition of poly(ether sulfone) modified graphene reduced the crystallinity of PEEK composites and shortened the total crystallization time. With increasing the mass ratio of PES to GE, the peak temperature and nucleation activity of f-GE(i) increased before declining.

Summary: A lightweight, multifunctional and highly efficient EMI shielding polymer composite with a perfect 3D silver conductive network and enhanced interfacial connection was fabricated through a unique silver-sulfur coordination reaction-induced in situ interfacial enhancement approach. The composite exhibited superior electrical conductivity, ultra-efficient EMI shielding effectiveness, excellent thermal conductivity, remarkable corrosion resistance, and satisfactory mechanical properties, showing promising potential in providing ideal EMI protection for next-generation electronics in complex application environments.

Summary: This manuscript explores a method for improving the fracture resistance and mechanical strength behavior of polymer composites by incorporating short carbon fibers into continuous fiber/poly(phenylene sulfide) laminate. The results show that the combination of short carbon fibers and continuous fibers leads to a decrease in tensile strength and elastic modulus values compared to composites reinforced solely by continuous fibers. However, the compression strength of the mixed composite is only slightly lower than a laminate reinforced with solely continuous carbon fiber, indicating a synergic gain in this case.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of adding 0.4 wt.% carbon black (CB) to polyamide 66 (PA66) with 30 wt.% short glass fibers (GFs) on the thermal crystallization behavior of the composite. The results show that the nucleation effect of GFs enhances the crystallization of PA66, and the combination of GF and CB reduces the activation energy of crystallization, facilitating the process.

Summary: High-performance PPS/carbon fiber composites with improved mechanical strength and tribological performance can be obtained by treating the carbon fiber surface with heat-treated cyclic phenylene sulfide oligomers. The enhanced performance is attributed to the improved compatibility of the modified carbon fiber with the PPS matrix.

Summary: The research achieved effective depolymerization of GFR PET composites through chemical recycling, finding that more strict conditions were required compared to pure PET pellets. Evidence of PET chain reorganization and increased crystallinity were observed through DSC and WAXD, while adhesion of PET and crystallization onto glass fibers resulted in a different crystalline phase that increased depolymerization time.

Summary: This study demonstrates the characterization of end-groups of high-performance engineering plastic poly(p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS) using dynamic nuclear polarization enhanced solid-state NMR combined with a thermal treatment approach for sample preparation. The results show that thermal treatment improves the signal sensitivity of PPS and enables the observation of signals assignable to end-groups in a reasonable measurement time.

Summary: In this study, a linear ultrasonic motor with carbon-fiber-reinforced/poly-phenylene-sulfide (PPS/CF) was developed and tested for its feasibility in achieving a lightweight design. The anisotropic Young's moduli of PPS/CF were found to enhance the driving force, while its low density helped in weight reduction. The motor achieved high thrust force density and power density compared to other materials with similar structures and vibration modes.
