Summary: The copolymerization of HFIPA and OFPA with NVP was studied in the presence of BTC and polymeric RAFT agents based on fluoroacrylates. The copolymerization process proceeds in a control mode, confirmed by the first order of reaction by monomer and SEC curves. The influence of subphase composition and pH on the surface properties of copolymers was investigated, and the morphology of LB films of various compositions was studied by atomic force microscopy.

Summary: In this study, thermo-responsive and pH-responsive triblock copolymers were synthesized, which can self-assemble into nanostructures and encapsulate hydrophobic molecules under specific conditions. The P4VP blocks can coordinate with Cu2+ to form a thermo- and pH-responsive nanogel, achieving size reduction through thermo- or pH-induced deswelling.

Summary: In this study, we successfully synthesized PE-PCL block copolymers containing both polar and non-polar segments through a two-step polymerization process. The block copolymers exhibit diverse crystal structures and phase separation between the PE and PCL segments. Additionally, the block copolymers act as compatibilizers in the blends. Rheology results show a high order-disorder transition temperature for the block copolymers.

Summary: It is well-known that polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) is a powerful technique for synthesizing colloidal dispersions of diblock copolymer nanoparticles. This review article aims to summarize the advances in PISA syntheses in non-polar media since the last review article in 2016. The article discusses PISA syntheses using RAFT polymerization in various non-polar solvents and examines the morphological transitions and rheological properties of the formed nanoparticles.

Summary: Despite advancements in polymerization techniques, the synthesis of functional macromolecules can still be time-consuming, especially when incompatible chemistries are involved. In this study, one-pot synthesis of strong anionic/charge-neutral block copolymers is explored using a three-step process involving macroinitiator synthesis, chain extension through photomediated atom transfer radical polymerization, and in situ deprotection. The resulting block copolymers exhibit self-assembly properties in aqueous media and can be produced easily, demonstrating versatility in producing strong polymer amphiphiles.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of hydrophobic R groups on various properties of polymeric micelles loaded with ZnPc for photodynamic therapy. The presence of aromatic R groups led to larger micelles with loosely packed ZnPc aggregates, resulting in higher release and enhanced photodynamic effect compared to micelles with aliphatic R groups.

Summary: In this hi-tech world, smart coatings have attracted significant attention from materials scientists due to their versatile applications. The layer-by-layer (LbL) technique is commonly used to produce suitable smart coatings. In this study, a smart coating with healing, antifogging, and fluorescence properties was fabricated using the LbL assembly of an anionic amphiphilic block copolymer latex and cationic inorganic POSS nanoparticles. This finding provides a simple water-based LbL coating with low VOC and multifunctional properties, which can be potential material for various applications.

Summary: In this study, a PMMA-b-P(PEGMA) copolymer was synthesized using RAFT polymerization, and different linear polymers were grafted onto mCNTs-SH surfaces through UV-initiated click chemistry to achieve a PVDF composite membrane containing oriented magnetic CNTs. Various analytical methods were used to verify the structures of the copolymers and analyze the magnetic response state and surface morphology of the magnetically functionalized CNTs. The composite membrane with oriented mCNTs showed improved pure water flux compared to a pure PVDF membrane.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the performance of lignite coal water slurries (CWSs) by synthesizing a series of three-arm amphiphilic block copolymers. By controlling the relative molecular weight, hydrophilic/hydrophobic ratio, and ionic group content, the apparent viscosity of CWSs was significantly reduced and the static stability was improved. Thermogravimetric testing and XPS analysis were conducted to reveal the mechanism behind the improved performance.

Summary: High molecular weight poly(butyl acrylate)s and diblock copolymers were successfully synthesized using water-soluble organotellurium chain transfer agents in water, achieving high monomer conversion rates and low viscosity due to stable latex formation. The presence of termination reactions in reversible deactivation radical polymerization has been a limiting factor for synthesizing HMW polymers, but high end group fidelity was confirmed through block copolymer synthesis under the current conditions.
