Summary: This study developed a new printing material suitable for material extrusion (MEX) 3D printing technology by blending polycarbonate (PC) with poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and introducing methyl methacrylate-butadiene-styrene terpolymer (MBS) for toughness improvement. The results showed that the addition of PBAT significantly improved the processing performance of PC and the introduction of MBS enhanced the toughness of the blends without affecting the 3D printing performance. This work is important for guiding the development of novel MEX printing materials and expanding the variety of MEX printing materials.

Summary: The study investigated the morphologies and physical properties of twin-screw-extruded polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) blends with different blend ratios. It was found that with an increase in ABS content, the phase structure in PC-rich blends transitioned from needle-like to sea-island, leading to significant changes in the rheological properties of the blends.

Summary: The electrospun polystyrene (PS) fibre mat has great potential as an oil sorbent due to its high sorption capacity and oil-water selectivity. However, poor mechanical properties have limited its use in such applications. By blending polystyrene (PS) and thermoplastic polyurethane (PU) fibres in different ratios, a balance between sorption capacity and mechanical behavior can be achieved.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of different printing layer thicknesses on the mechanical properties of a new 3D-printed polymer blend made from PLA and PCU. Compressive strength and Young's modulus of the blend were reduced when PCU was added compared to 3D-printed PLA. Printing layer thickness also affected the mechanical properties of the specimens, and the hardness-to-elasticity ratio was found to be a crucial characteristic for proper load transfer. SEM analysis revealed smoother cross-sectional surfaces for compression-molded specimens, leading to different failure modes for both types of specimens.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of TiO2 and CeO2 on the properties of PLA/PC blend, and found that the addition of catalysts can promote the reaction between PLA and PC, increase the modulus and rheological properties of the blend, and improve the processing. Blends with high content of CeO2 exhibited brittle behavior. The type and amount of catalysts significantly affected the mechanical and thermal properties of PLA/PC blends.

Summary: This study investigated the processing and compression molding of polycarbonate glass fiber long-fiber thermoplastic materials (PC GF LFT-D) using two different approaches. The resulting fiber lengths averaged around 0.5 mm for all settings. The mechanical properties, including tensile, bending, Charpy, and impact properties, were characterized and discussed in detail. The results showed that PC GF LFT-D exhibited good mechanical properties and stable processability, with a tensile modulus of 10 GPa and a strength surpassing 125 MPa.

Summary: In this study, a transparent composite is developed by matching the refractive indices of E-glass fiber and a polymer blend. The composite features highly miscible polycarbonate and polycaprolactone as the matrix to avoid opacity caused by phase separation. The optimal transparency is achieved at a PC:PCL weight ratio of 65:35, and the composite exhibits superior mechanical strengths compared to PC and short glass fiber-reinforced composites.

Summary: In this study, a polymer ternary blend was used to improve the electrical conductivity of polycarbonate by forming interfacial carbon black networks. The conductivity percolation threshold of carbon black in the blend was much lower than that in neat polycarbonate, and the mechanical properties of the composite were also enhanced.

Summary: This paper presents the synthesis of core-shell polybutadiene-graft-polystyrene (PB-g-PS) and its toughening effect on polyphenylene oxide (PPO)/polystyrene (PS) alloy. The study investigates the influence of entanglement density on the mechanical properties and deformation mechanism of the blends. The results show that increasing the matrix chain entanglement density enhances the toughness of the blends.

Summary: The non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method was used to prepare PPO/PS blend flat-sheet porous membranes, which were then tested in a DCMD experimental set-up. The prepared membranes were characterized and their performance was evaluated in terms of permeate flux, rejection rate, and anti-fouling and anti-scaling properties. The results showed that increasing the feed temperature and maintaining the permeate temperature constant resulted in increased permeate flux. The membranes exhibited high rejection rates in all DCMD tests, and their anti-scaling and anti-fouling properties were also demonstrated.

Summary: This study used a blend of polycarbonate (PC) and polybutylene terephthalate thin films as polymeric solid-state nuclear track detectors, analyzing the compositional, optical, electrical, and surface changes in the samples exposed to gamma-rays. Techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, UV-Visible spectroscopy, LCR Meter Bridge, and scanning electron microscope were used to study the physicochemical properties of the irradiated samples. The degradation of the polymer chain, changes in optical behaviors such as absorbance shift, and increase in electrical conductivity were observed after gamma irradiation, with dielectric loss and dielectric constant being sensitive parameters to the changes in structural and optical behaviors. Additionally, surface changes were also discussed.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of using coatings made from aramid nanofibers (ANFs) on the surface treatment of aramid fiber and reinforced polycarbonate (PC) composite (AF/PC). The coatings were made by modifying PC/CH2Cl2 solution with ANFs to enhance the adhesion and compatibility of the composites. The results show that the modified fiber has better wettability and increased interfacial bonding strength between PC and aramid fiber.

Summary: In this study, polycarbonate/ethylene methyl acrylate blend (PC/EMA) nanocomposites were fabricated using graphene and their effect on electrical, mechanical, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties was explored. The mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were improved by increasing the graphene content. The EMI shielding properties of the graphene-based composites were evaluated in the X band, and the fabricated PC/EMA-graphene nanocomposites exhibited an EMI shielding of -51 dB at 15 phr graphene loading. Therefore, the combination of excellent EMI shielding performance and sensitive response makes these nanocomposites promising materials for various applications in next-generation electronics.

Summary: This review article discusses various PC-PBT blends prepared by reactive melt blending in extruders, focusing on the role of transesterification reactions and the effects of different types of phosphites on the properties of the blends. The study found that trace catalyst residue in PBT catalyzes transesterification, leading to changes in the composition and properties of the copolymer. The introduction of different alkyl, aryl, and alkyl-aryl groups of phosphites can inhibit transesterification and alter the morphology, thermal, and mechanical properties of the blend. This research topic has attracted considerable interest from academia and industries.
