Summary: Epidemiological studies have found a correlation between caries in deciduous molars and permanent molars. This study investigated the association between caries subtypes in deciduous molars and first permanent molars, as well as the microbiota involved in different subtypes. The results suggest that classification of deciduous molar caries based on the microbiota could predict the risk of caries in adjacent first permanent molars.

Summary: Steroid hormones and the oral microbiota of pregnant women are both important risk factors for gingivitis. This study investigated the composition and diversity of the microbiota in the interdental spaces of 3 months pregnant women and found that certain bacteria were associated with an increased risk of periodontal disease. Preventive measures should be implemented in pregnant women to reduce the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Summary: In this study, the distribution of ester functional groups in carious dentine tissue was compared using high-resolution Raman spectroscopy. The results showed a higher intensity of the ester functional group in the infected dentine zone compared to the affected tissue. This finding has important implications for the development of an objective indicator for the selective operative management of carious dentine.

Summary: A label-free sensing method has been developed to identify hazardous pathogens based on their intrinsic properties. By performing a thermal curve analysis with terahertz metamaterials, a label-free identification tool for bacteria and yeasts has been created. The unique fingerprint obtained from the temperature-dependent resonance can provide information about the bacterial phases, such as growth and DNA denaturation. The method can also distinguish between gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria based on the temperature range of cell wall destruction.

Summary: This study evaluated the changes in caries-invaded dentin using Raman spectroscopy and Vickers microhardness, and found that caries-infected dentin exhibited specific spectral peaks and the peaks in the amide regions varied in different carious lesions. The mineral: matrix peak ratio was correlated to the microhardness number within carious lesions.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between innate immune response and oral microbiota. The findings suggest that the expression of Toll-like receptors and proinflammatory markers in dental pulp tissue is associated with exposure to carious dentin. Additionally, the oral microbiome in carious teeth showed significant differences compared to non-carious teeth.

Summary: This study analyzed the microbiome of root caries lesions in patients with severe periodontitis and found compositionally distinct microbiota depending on the location of the lesions. Periodontal pathogens were identified in root caries lesions that extended beyond the gingival margin, providing new insights into the microbial etiology of root caries.

Summary: This study investigated the perspectives of US adolescents and young adults on their dental health and oral hygiene practice. It found that most participants considered dental health important, but their actual oral hygiene practices may not align with ADA guidelines and self-reported dental caries were high. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted dental healthcare among youth, leading to changes in dental visits and hygiene habits.

Summary: This in vitro study investigated the optical attenuation of light at different wavelengths transmitted through healthy and carious dental tissues. The study found that the translucent zone in dentin can be distinguished from adjacent layers and caries-free dentin, and that there are significant differences between sound-appearing dentin close to caries lesions and caries-free dentin.

Summary: This study evaluated the use of digital bitewing radiographs with PSP plates in estimating the true extension of proximal carious lesions. The study found that the clinical extension of proximal caries after non-selective caries removal was significantly deeper than the preoperative radiographic extension assessment. This finding was consistent across different types of teeth, locations, and affected tooth surfaces.

Summary: This systematic review compared the salivary microbiota of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) to those without T2D, focusing on acid-associated bacteria. It found that diabetics had a higher abundance of acidogenic and aciduric bacteria, as well as enrichment of specific acid-associated genera.

Summary: This study used multiple criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to evaluate the organizational impact of innovative drugs for hemophilia care management. The pilot study involved French experts in hemophilia care management and found that subcutaneous administration of Factor VIII had the least impact on care organization, while gene therapy had the strongest impact. This approach can support treatment decision-making at the healthcare team level and consider organizational factors.

Summary: This scoping review aims to analyze the epidemiology and clinical burden of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in France by reporting epidemiological parameters and describing the clinical consequences and care pathway of patients. The incidence of IMD cases in France has fluctuated over time, with a decrease in Sg B cases and an increase in Sg W cases. The most frequently reported sequelae are severe neurological disorder, epilepsy, and anxiety, but data on sequelae and care pathways are limited.

Summary: The present review highlights the changes in food perception among head and neck cancer patients, including taste, texture, temperature, and other oral sensations. These changes not only have physiological importance but also convey psychological and psychosocial values. Comprehensive assessment of patients' food perception can lead to personalized dietary interventions to improve their eating experience and quality of life. More studies on oral somatosensory perception with larger sample sizes and standardized assessment methods are needed to fully understand its impact on eating behavior and quality of life.

Summary: French adolescents and their parents show a certain level of distrust and lack of knowledge about the HPV vaccine. Pharmacists play a crucial role in promoting vaccination and restoring confidence in the target population. However, there are gaps in their knowledge, and measures such as training, computer alerts, and supportive materials are needed to improve the promotion and coverage of the HPV vaccine. Additionally, a majority of pharmacists support a pharmacy-based vaccination program.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence, severity, and risk factors of gingivitis among pregnant women. A total of 220 nulliparous women at 3 months of pregnancy were recruited in Dakar, Senegal in 2022. Logistic regression analysis revealed that consuming more than five portions of fruits and vegetables per day significantly decreased the odds of gingivitis, while having a professional activity and high education increased the odds. Other important risk factors included dental plaque percentage and severity of clinical attachment loss. Increasing body mass index was inversely associated with gingivitis. The results emphasize the high prevalence of gingivitis and bleeding among 3-month pregnant women and highlight the importance of literacy and proper oral hygiene actions in improving gingival health.
