Smokeless tobacco utilization among tribal communities in India: A population-based cross-sectional analysis of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey, 2016-2017

Summary: This study aimed to assess the correlation between smokeless tobacco use and addiction among tribal communities in India, as well as estimate its prevalence. The findings revealed that approximately one-third of tribal residents used smokeless tobacco, with significant associations observed among individuals aged 31-45 years, men, and daily wage laborers. The study highlights the need for attention to smokeless tobacco use among tribal populations and the importance of implementing relevant control policies.

The study finds that cases are concentrated in areas with lower income, educational attainment, and a higher proportion of visible minorities, recent immigrants, high-density housing, and essential workers. The study also reveals variations in the concentration of social determinants among different cities.

COVID-19 vaccination coverage in deprived populations living in segregated colonies: A nationwide cross-sectional study in Hungary

Summary: The study reveals that the segregated colonies (SCs) in Hungary, mainly populated by Roma, have significantly lower COVID-19 vaccination coverage compared to complementary areas (CAs) in the same settlements. Hungarian citizens living in SCs, mainly of Roma ethnicity, are identified as a distinct high-risk group. Special interventions are needed to address the inequality in vaccination coverage and mitigate the consequences of the pandemic.

Concerns about the rushed government vaccine approval process and potential bad reactions to the vaccine were identified as the two most important factors predicting vaccination intention.

Summary: Immigrant women make up a significant portion of births in New York City, with varying maternal health outcomes. Disparities in health care utilization, particularly in preconception, prenatal, and postpartum care, were found among immigrant women compared to US-born women. Factors such as insurance type, paternal nativity, and maternal education partially explain these utilization differences. Collaboration with community-based organizations in immigrant communities and expanding health care access and public health insurance eligibility could help reduce disparities.
