Summary: Obesity is an independent prognostic factor for breast cancer and is associated with poorer response to treatment. This study found that dietary counselling before chemotherapy may limit weight gain and influence fat mass reduction, but does not guarantee maintenance of normal lipid parameters during chemotherapy.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of malnutrition and its association with toxicity outcomes in women with cervical cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy. The results showed that nearly half of the patients were malnourished, and malnutrition was associated with a higher incidence of toxicity events and treatment modifications. The study suggests that PG-SGA may be an important tool for predicting toxicity outcomes in these patients.

Summary: In young women receiving chemotherapy for early breast cancer, a high proportion experienced chemotherapy-induced ovarian failure (CIOF) with most regaining premenopausal hormone levels within 2 years. CIOF was associated with better disease-free survival (DFS), especially in patients with hormone receptor-positive EBC or aged <30 years.

Summary: This study investigates whether there is a correlation between nutritional status and prognosis in patients with advanced esophageal cancer treated with taxane or nivolumab therapy. The clinical data of patients receiving taxane monotherapy or nivolumab therapy were reviewed. The results indicate that good nutritional status is associated with better overall survival in patients treated with nivolumab, while the prognosis of patients treated with taxane was less affected by nutritional status.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of caloric restriction (CR) on breast cancer patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT). The results showed that patients who adhered to CR had a better therapeutic response in terms of tumor size and lymph node status compared to patients who only received NACT. The CR diet combined with NACT also showed efficacy and safety in anthropometric and biochemical analyses.

Summary: This study described the nutritional status and related factors in gastric cancer patients after gastrectomy. The study found that over 50% of the participants were malnourished or at risk for malnutrition. Severity of symptoms, employment status, and difficulty in diet preparation were significant predictors of nutritional status.

Summary: This study found that the gluten-free diet is associated with an increased risk of weight gain and the development of metabolic disorders. Evaluating the nutritional status using specific parameters, the study found that patients with celiac disease had a poorer nutritional status at diagnosis compared to healthy controls, but their nutritional status significantly improved after following a gluten-free diet.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the factors associated with fertility preservation (FP) decision among breast cancer patients aged ≤ 45 years. It was found that age, insurance type, nulliparity, and referral from Breast Surgery influenced the decision to undergo FP. Additionally, the study demonstrated that FP does not compromise oncologic outcomes and women who underwent FP were more likely to have a biological child after treatment.

Summary: Chemotherapy in older patients with early breast cancer has a significant negative impact on quality of life at 6 months, affecting various aspects such as global health score, physical, role, and social functioning. However, this impact diminishes by 18-24 months, highlighting the importance of informed decision-making for older patients considering chemotherapy.

Summary: The study found a negative correlation between overall nutritional status and cancer mortality, indicating that healthier nutritional status is associated with a lower cancer mortality rate. Not smoking, exercising regularly, and maintaining a healthy weight interact with overall nutritional status to reduce the risk of cancer mortality. Adherence to a healthier overall nutritional status, lifestyle habits, and optimal weight can prevent premature death from cancer.

Summary: In this study, a new electrochemical biosensor was developed using peptides selected by Phage Display as bio-recognition phase for Breast Cancer (BC) characterization. The peptides were validated and found to have stronger reactivity to a specific type of BC. A new matrix for immobilizing biomolecules was generated through electrochemical modification of graphite electrodes. The biosensor was developed by immobilizing the peptides in the system for the detection of BC tumor markers in serological samples. The biosensor showed better performance compared to ELISA test.

Summary: The study investigated the association between time-related eating patterns and daily calorie and macronutrient intake in Brazilian male military police officers. The findings showed that night shift workers had later eating times, longer eating durations, and later caloric midpoint than day workers. Late eaters consumed more energy, fat, and protein, but less carbohydrates, compared to early eaters. The time of the first and last meal was correlated with energy and macronutrient intake, with different patterns observed for day and night shift workers. Eating duration was positively correlated with energy and carbohydrate intake in both groups. Therefore, eating later at night was associated with increased daily energy and macronutrient intake.

Summary: This study examines the association of eating time and frequency with diet quality, quantity of food consumption, anthropometric measurements, and body composition parameters in female breast cancer survivors. The study finds that earlier food intake time is associated with better diet quality and lower daily energy consumption. Higher frequency of eating is also associated with better diet quality. However, there are no significant associations between eating time and frequency with anthropometric measurements and body composition parameters.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the stability of anthocyanins extracted from coffee husks by using three different extracting agents and stabilizing them with zinc oxide nanoparticles. The results showed that the total phenolic compounds of the nanoparticle-anthocyanin conjugates remained stable after stabilization, with a major loss of less than 3%. Additionally, the degradation percentage of anthocyanins was less than 5% after 12 weeks of storage. Both fresh anthocyanin extracts and anthocyanin-nanoparticle conjugates exhibited a strong protective effect against oxidative stress and increased the survival rate of Caenorhabditis elegans.

Summary: A recent US national survey has drawn attention to the little-studied relationship between testosterone hormone therapy in transgender men and cardiovascular outcomes. This systematic review aimed to assess the association between hormone therapy in transgender men and lipid profiles and cardiovascular risk. The findings suggest that hormone therapy may lead to a decrease in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, but further studies are needed to establish cardiovascular risk.

Summary: This study evaluated the factors associated with anxiety perception during the first wave of covid-19 in Ibero-American countries. A cross-sectional study was conducted with 5,845 participants from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Peru, and Spain. The prevalence of self-reported anxiety during the isolation period was 63.8%. Factors associated with anxiety included being female, aged 18-49, residing in Argentina, Brazil, or Mexico, weight changes, and changes in sleep patterns. This study highlights the high prevalence of self-reported anxiety in Ibero-American countries during the study period, particularly in Brazil and among those who experienced weight gain and decreased sleep.
