Summary: This study used a nationwide database to analyze the trends and outcomes of isolated coronary artery bypass grafting after ST-elevation myocardial infarction. The results showed a decline in the use of this procedure, but no change in in-hospital mortality. A recent cohort study found that performing the grafting on day 2 had similar in-hospital mortality compared with day 3 or more, but lower rates of complications and shorter hospital stays.

Summary: This study found that indirect admission to the cardiac catheterization laboratory for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is associated with 1-year mortality independent of first medical contact (FMC) to balloon time. Indirect admission is associated with higher-risk features and suboptimal antithrombotic therapy. Older age, paramedics-FMC, and self-presentation to a private physician were independently associated with indirect admission.

Summary: A study in China on acute myocardial infarction patients found an inverse association between the number of standard modifiable risk factors (SMuRFs) and all-cause mortality within 30 days, but after multivariate adjustment, a higher number of SMuRFs were associated with poor prognosis, especially among patients admitted beyond 12 hours from onset.

Summary: Early mortality after ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in France remains high. Unmodifiable factors such as age, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus, electrical localization, and Killip class are significantly associated with reduced 30-day survival. Modifiable factors including ischemic time, premedication, and post-PCI TIMI score are also significantly associated with reduced 30-day survival.

Summary: The use of Rituximab in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) appears to be safe and has a substantial impact on circulating B-cell subsets. These findings provide important new insights on the feasibility and pharmacodynamics of Rituximab in acute STEMI, which will inform further clinical translation of this potential therapy.

Summary: This study aims to determine the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) in Peru's public health system. It will be a multicenter study conducted in 27 hospitals across major cities in Peru, providing valuable knowledge and contributing to the understanding of STEMI in the country. The observational design and large sample size will enhance the external validity of the findings, although limitations such as the inability to establish causality and potential data imprecision from medical records should be noted.

Summary: This study found no significant association between obesity and acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). AKI had a negative impact on the prognosis of all BMI categories, and BMI was associated with long-term mortality risk. In patients with AKI, obesity had an additional beneficial effect, reducing the long-term mortality risk.

Summary: This study investigated the prognostic differences between elderly patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) by analyzing data from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database in Taiwan. The results showed that there was no difference in cardiovascular and all-cause mortality between STEMI and NSTEMI in patients who received revascularization. However, in patients who did not receive revascularization, NSTEMI was associated with a higher risk of all-cause death. Moreover, there was no difference in major bleeding between STEMI and NSTEMI patients aged ≥65 years old.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between physical activity and renal and cardiovascular outcomes in high-risk patients aged >= 55 years. The results showed that moderate physical activity was associated with improved kidney outcomes, with a threshold of at least two sessions per week. The association between physical activity and renal outcomes did not differ significantly between those with and without diabetes, but the absolute benefit of activity was greater in people with diabetes.

Summary: The use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) has expanded in recent years, with lower bleeding risks and mortality compared to vitamin K antagonists. However, there is still a considerable risk of major bleeding in DOAC users, which can be life-threatening. Current international guidelines recommend specific reversal agents for managing severe bleeding in DOAC users, but these agents are unavailable or limited in many countries, leading to potential negative impacts on clinical outcomes. Limited real-world evidence exists regarding the clinical outcomes of DOAC-associated major bleeding in these countries.
