Summary: Laevicaudatan branchiopods, also known as 'smooth clam shrimps' or 'pea shrimps', are a rare group of crustaceans found in temporary, small freshwater bodies that are mostly dry. Genetic data indicates a complex of cryptic species within Lynceus brachyurus and distinct East Asian and Southern Hemisphere clades. The study suggests a Pangean origin of Laevicaudata and highlights the need for further DNA research on certain species.

Summary: Remipedia is a group of animals commonly found in coastal caves, with a new species discovered in the Bahamas. Comprehensive studies on the genus Godzillius revealed morphological and molecular differences between species, with the discovery of G. louriei sp. nov. adding to the knowledge of this group.

Summary: This study estimates the evolutionary time-tree for Ecdysozoans using improved fossil calibrations. The results suggest that Scalidophora is the sister group to Nematoida + Panarthropoda and that the divergence of Ecdysozoa occurred at least 23 myr before the first potential ecdysozoan trace fossils.

Summary: Research revealed that differentiation in the expression pattern of capa and pk genes occurred early in the evolution of Hexapoda, with the main differences observed in the specific location of peripheral release sites of neurons.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive evaluation of the Typhlatya genus in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, revealing conflicts in previous species classifications and the discovery of new genetic lineages. The research emphasizes the importance of using integrative and interdisciplinary approaches when assessing biodiversity in complex and poorly studied aquifers.

Summary: Based on material collected during the mid-to late 1980s, this article presents new distributional records for the anchialine shrimp, Caridina rubella Fujino & Shokita, 1975. In addition to the Ryukyus, Palawan, and Sulawesi, the species is now also recorded in Tahiti, Niue, Tonga, Western Samoa, the Loyalty Islands, Solomon Islands, Bohol, and Panglao. The significant rostral variation in the species is highlighted.

Summary: As the United Nations develops a post-2020 global biodiversity framework, the need for new goals and targets for ecosystem conservation is being emphasized. Reliable and resilient research on ecosystem responses to environmental change and management is necessary to achieve dual imperatives of conserving biodiversity and sustaining ecosystem services. However, the lack of a globally consistent ecosystem classification hampers progress in developing conservation targets and sustainability goals.

Summary: This study examines the impact of meteorological phenomena on the ecosystem communities of karst subterranean estuaries (KSEs). It finds that short-term temperature and precipitation shifts have minimal effects on the faunal communities in the estuaries, but negatively impact marine species within the caves.
