Summary: Patients with osteoporosis have increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Some antiosteoporosis medications may have protective effects against CVD, with denosumab, teriparatide, and bisphosphonate showing lower risks compared to hormone therapy. Physicians should consider cardiovascular risks when prescribing antiosteoporosis medication for osteoporosis patients.

Summary: This retrospective, longitudinal study demonstrated that high levels of remnant cholesterol are associated with an increased risk of incident type 2 diabetes (T2D), particularly in individuals without traditional T2D risk factors and metabolic abnormalities. These findings suggest that remnant cholesterol profiles provide additional information in predicting future progression of T2D, independent of conventional lipid parameters.

Summary: Multimorbidity is common among patients with diabetes in China and can lead to high healthcare expenditure for their families. This study found that having multiple chronic diseases increased the likelihood of catastrophic health expenditure, and this association was observed across different socioeconomic and health insurance groups. The findings suggest that the current health insurance schemes in China do not provide sufficient protection against catastrophic health expenditure for families of diabetes patients.

Summary: This study suggests that children with diabetes have an increased risk of early-onset kidney diseases later in life. Both type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes are associated with a higher risk of kidney diseases. Children with diabetes are also at a higher risk of specific kidney diseases such as glomerular diseases, renal tubulo-interstitial diseases, renal failure, and urolithiasis.

Summary: This study found a slightly increased risk of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) within one month after influenza vaccination, based on a retrospective nationwide population-based case-control study in Denmark. However, only 1.5% of GBS cases were associated with recent influenza vaccination. Therefore, the benefits of influenza vaccines in preventing influenza infections and associated morbidity and mortality need to be evaluated against the small absolute risk of GBS.

Summary: This meta-analysis examined white matter connectivity abnormalities in language networks of individuals with ASD. Significantly reduced white matter integrity was found in all language-associated tracts in subjects with ASD compared with TD controls. In addition, structural disturbances of language networks in the autistic brain exhibit a leftward tendency, and more prominent abnormalities are observed in younger people with ASD than in adults.

Summary: In this study, the relationship between perinatal inflammation and genetic risk for ADHD was examined in children aged 8-9. The results showed that perinatal inflammation and ADHD polygenic risk score (ADHD-PRS) were associated with ADHD symptoms, and there was an interaction between the two factors. The impact of perinatal inflammation on ADHD symptoms was particularly pronounced in children with a higher genetic risk for ADHD.

Summary: This study aims to describe the prevalence and risk factors of the coexistence of stunting, wasting, and underweight among children under five in Bangladesh. The study found that the prevalence of coexistence declined over time, and identified low birth weight, age group 36-47 months, socio-economic poverty, maternal education, and maternal underweight as significant risk factors. The study also observed a lower incidence of coexistence in the 2017-18 survey compared to the 2014 survey.

Summary: This study examined the time course of mortality reduction following smoking cessation in Asian populations. Findings suggest that adverse effects of tobacco smoking persist for an extended time period, even exceeding two decades, contrary to current clinical guidelines. Summary: The study found various inequalities in RMNCH service coverage in Vietnam, with some health service indicators likely to achieve targets by 2030, but many indicators still have low coverage rates. It is suggested that Vietnam can achieve universal health coverage targets and other health-related sustainable development goals by improving government health system reform efforts, reallocating resources, and focusing on the most impoverished rural populations.
