Summary: This study analyzed the intake of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) during complementary feeding (CF) in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants and its impact on neurodevelopment. The results showed that higher intake of total PUFAs, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and arachidonic acid (AA) was associated with improved cognitive and motor function at 12 months of age. However, the dietary intake of AA and DHA did not meet the recommended levels, highlighting the need to increase PUFA, DHA, and AA intake during CF for better neurodevelopmental outcomes in VLBW infants.

Summary: The study aims to identify perinatal antecedents associated with neurodevelopmental impairment in very low birth weight preterm infants and evaluate the stability of neurodevelopmental assessments at different ages. The findings suggest that multiple perinatal risk factors are associated with poor neurodevelopmental scores in preterm infants, and the predictive ability of assessments at 6 months is limited for outcomes at 24 months.

Summary: The use of mothers' own milk for premature babies has increased over the years, resulting in improved growth and better outcomes. The availability of mothers' milk and the start of minimal enteral feeding showed positive trends. There was no statistical difference in weight gain between infants fed with maternal milk and bank milk. Maternal age, early-start feeding with maternal milk, and low gestational age had significant impacts on milk feeding at discharge.

Summary: Insufficient nutrition during the critical periods of gestation and early neonatal life can impact neurodevelopment in VLBW infants. This study found associations between intra-uterine growth restriction and inadequate postnatal energy intake with delayed cognitive development and behavioral disorders. It also identified links between energy restriction in the first week of life with visual deficiency and cerebral palsy in this population.

Summary: Feeding mode is related to the gut microbiota and neurodevelopment outcomes of preterm toddlers. A cohort study found that preterm toddlers who were exclusively breastfed for over three months within the first six months showed significant improvement in language and cognitive scores at 12 and 18 months corrected age. Their gut microbiota composition resembled that of healthy term toddlers.

Summary: Infants born very preterm face neurodevelopmental challenges and early identification through clinical assessment and MRI can enable targeted interventions. This study used a prospective cohort of preterm infants and identified early MRI biomarkers for neurodevelopmental outcomes using advanced imaging techniques. The results demonstrated the utility of MRI prior to term equivalent age for predicting outcomes and initiating early interventions.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the health effects of illegal landfills and burning of urban and hazardous waste in the territory of a Prosecution Office in Naples North, Italy. The results showed a correlation between uncontrolled waste sites and various health issues such as different types of cancer and ischemic heart diseases. It also found that there are increased risks of hospitalization for certain diseases related to waste sites.

Summary: This study aims to assess the relationship between early nutritional intake, growth in the first year, and neurodevelopment in very low birth weight infants. The results showed slower growth in extremely preterm infants compared to very/moderately preterm infants before discharge, but no differences in anthropometric characteristics or neurodevelopmental scores at 12 months. Higher carbohydrate intake during the first 28 days was a significant predictor for better cognitive scores only in extremely preterm infants.

Summary: Early life experiences, such as very preterm birth, can have long-term effects on brain and cognitive development. This study synthesized previous research on brain structure in adults born very preterm (VP) and found volumetric, morphologic, and microstructural alterations in specific regions of the brain compared to controls. These findings suggest a persisting neurological impact of VP birth, which may provide insights into the development of cognition in high-risk populations.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study investigated differences between Italian and immigrant CKD patients, as well as among immigrant subgroups, in terms of baseline characteristics and outcomes. Immigrants showed varied clinical presentations and nephropathy patterns during initial encounters with nephrologists, and experienced faster kidney function decline during follow-up, leading to a higher risk of disease progression towards ESKD.

Summary: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of SSX and SSX::SS18 antibodies in decalcified surgical specimens and the outcome of synovial sarcomas (SS) of bone. The results showed that SS18::SSX fusion-specific and SSX C-terminus antibodies were useful in supporting the diagnosis of SS. The study also found that adjustment chemotherapy was associated with improved prognosis.

Summary: This study investigated the relationships between the Cognitive Assessment Interview (CAI) and measures of cognitive performance, functional capacity, and real-life functioning in a large sample of schizophrenia patients. The results showed that the CAI has good inter-rater reliability and internal consistency, and is a valid instrument for screening impairment in neurocognitive and social cognitive domains and its impact on functioning in schizophrenia patients.

Summary: Young children use gestures to practice communicative functions, which foster their linguistic skills. This study found that the use of gestures and gesture-word combinations by late talkers can enhance their language acquisition. Interindividual differences in late talkers' gesture and gesture-word production are influenced by individual and environmental factors.

Summary: The relationship between antibody response (AbR) and breakthrough infection (BI) after SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in 614 solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients was analyzed. Heart transplant recipients had the lowest probability of immunization and the highest probability of breakthrough infection. Summary: This study found that late talkers often experience settling difficulties, frequent night wakings, and co-sleeping with parents. Parents tend to use encouraging autonomy practices over physical comforting methods. Factors such as being born low-risk preterm, high maternal education level, and mother's parenting stress were associated with different aspects of their sleep and bedtime practices.
