Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum levels of transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) and disease characteristics, activity, damage, or severity in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The results showed that TGF-β1 serum levels were associated with disease severity and activity, with ocular and cardiovascular manifestations positively correlated, while gastrointestinal and musculoskeletal involvements negatively correlated with circulating TGF-β1 levels.

Summary: Appropriate growth and development of the endometrium is crucial for a woman's quality of life and reproductive health, while conditions like heavy menstrual bleeding and recurrent pregnancy loss significantly impact women's quality of life and healthcare systems. TGF beta 1 plays a key role in regulating endometrial vascular maturation and could be a potential therapeutic target for women with HMB and/or RPL.

Summary: Curcumin upregulated the expression of TGF-beta 1, TGF-beta RI, TGF-beta RII, and VEGF in an in vitro hGF wound healing model. The ERK pathway is required for the induction of TGF-beta RI, TGF-beta RII, and VEGF by curcumin.

Summary: This study aimed to measure the serum concentrations of TGF-beta 1 in severely ill COVID-19 patients and analyze its relationship with hematological and biochemical parameters and disease outcome. The results showed that serum levels of TGF-beta 1 correlated with platelet counts in COVID-19 patients and controls. Additionally, positive correlations were found between TGF-beta 1 and white blood cell and lymphocyte counts, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio, and fibrinogen level, while negative correlations were observed with platelet distribution width, D-dimer, and activated partial thromboplastin time values. Lower serum values of TGF-beta 1 were associated with unfavorable outcomes of COVID-19.

Summary: This study found that the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) plays a crucial role in vascular calcification (VC). The mechanism of TGF-beta's involvement in VC was investigated using experimental models and clinical specimens. The results revealed that TGF-beta 1 can regulate the occurrence and progression of VC by modulating the miR-378a-3p/CTGF signaling pathway at specific time points.

Summary: The expression of NRP-1 is significantly reduced in the livers of patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), and the deletion of NRP-1 in smooth muscle cells (SMCs) leads to the formation of vascular malformations. The interaction between NRP-1, ALK1, and ENG in SMCs regulates the activity of the TGF-β pathway.

Summary: This retrospective cohort study evaluated the systemic effects of three commonly used anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) intravitreal injections in diabetes patients in Taiwan. The study found that different drugs (bevacizumab, ranibizumab, and aflibercept) had varying incidence rates of adverse events, such as ischemic stroke, major adverse lower-limb events, major bleeding, all-cause death, and all-cause admission. The study suggests that these differences may be attributed to drug variations and patient characteristics.

Summary: This study investigates the role of platelets and platelet-derived TGF beta 1 in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The study found that elevated platelet counts are associated with increased mortality in IPF patients, but this observation was not confirmed in a validation cohort. Additionally, platelet-derived TGF beta 1 does not significantly mediate inflammation or fibrosis in a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis animal model.

Summary: TGF-beta superfamily members play important roles in various diseases, and glycosylation modification is involved in the regulation of TGF-beta signaling pathway. There is a complex mutual regulation between glycosylation and TGF-beta signaling, which affects biological processes.

Summary: This study found that dental pulp stem cells can increase the lifespan and perfusion of blood vessels. The results revealed that dental pulp stem cells inhibit endothelial cell sprouting by activating the TEK tyrosine kinase (Tie2) signaling and regulating the expression levels of vascular endothelial (VE)-cadherin and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2).

Summary: Heparin-binding protein (HBP), secreted by neutrophils, plays a role in the pathophysiology of sepsis. Our studies showed that HBP binds to transforming growth factor-beta receptor type 2 (TGF-beta-R2) and triggers acute lung injury and vascular leakage through the TGF-beta/SMAD2/3 signaling pathway. The role of HBP and TGF-beta-R2 in HBP-related acute lung injury at the blood-gas barrier was also defined.

Summary: The study suggests a potential role of statins in improving neurocognition in patients with Major Depressive Disorder. Although standard statistical tests did not show significant differences, machine learning techniques identified variables affected by statin use. This implies a regulatory role of statins in the pathogenesis of clinical depression.

Summary: This study analyzed the release of biomolecules from leucocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) derived from smokers and nonsmokers, and investigated their effects on cell proliferation and migration in periodontal ligament cells. The results showed that L-PRF stimulated cell proliferation and migration, with no significant difference between smokers and nonsmokers. Nicotine inhibited cell proliferation and migration, but this effect was recovered in the presence of L-PRF conditioned media.
