Summary: This study examined the association between different metabolic phenotypes and the development of hypothyroidism. The results showed that both metabolic abnormalities and obesity are associated with a higher risk of hypothyroidism. On the other hand, healthy metabolic status and maintaining normal weight are associated with a lower risk of hypothyroidism.

Summary: The study found significant associations between TAG, TAG/HDL-cholesterol, and TC/HDL-cholesterol and a higher risk of incident hypertension, while HDL-cholesterol was associated with a lower risk. These associations remained independent of baseline blood pressure categories and other factors, suggesting their potential role in predicting hypertension.

Summary: The study found that there is an association between insulin resistance and chronic kidney disease. The increasing trend of insulin resistance is associated with a higher risk of developing CKD. Other clinical markers of insulin resistance, such as TyG and VAI, are also associated with a higher risk of CKD.

Summary: By evaluating the performance of the SCORE and Globorisk models in a country in the Middle East, we found that the original models overestimated the cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in that region. Through recalibration, we can predict CVD mortality more accurately. The Globorisk model showed better clinical performance among high-risk women.

Summary: This study examined the association between age, period, and birth cohort with body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) changes in participants of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study from 1999 to 2015. The results showed that BMI and WC increased with age in both men and women, and younger men from recent birth cohorts and older women from earlier birth cohorts had the most concerning BMI and WC trends. These findings highlight the importance of implementing obesity prevention policies, especially targeting younger men.

Summary: Despite the achievements of the national program for the prevention and control of diabetes in Iran over the past two decades, high prevalence of the disease is still observed. The qualitative study identified implementation barriers and inefficient policy-making/planning as the main obstacles to the program's success. Summary: Previous studies have shown that spiritual experience may reduce cardiovascular disease (CVDs). However, little is known about the relationship between spiritual health and the gender-specific risk of CVDs in communities with different cultures. The current results indicate a gender-specific association between spiritual health and cardiovascular disease risk. Our findings imply that promoting spiritual health can be considered an effective strategy in future preventive interventions, primarily by controlling the desire to smoke in men.

Summary: This study investigated the association between concentrations of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in urine and blood during pregnancy and serum human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) concentrations. The results showed that higher exposure to bisphenol A was associated with lower hCG concentrations, while higher triclosan exposure was associated with higher hCG concentrations. Higher exposure to certain phthalates and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) was also associated with lower hCG concentrations. These findings suggest that EDC exposure may have negative effects on placental hCG production and secretion, warranting further experimental studies.
