Summary: This paper introduces a collection of one- and two-sided reference ranges for assessing measurement differences in parallel-group studies, and explores the sample size determination issue for precise reference ranges. The usefulness of the proposed procedures is validated through theoretical examinations and empirical assessments.

Summary: In clinical settings, biomarkers are used as biological indicators of physiological states, but traditional reference ranges may not be suitable for all individuals. To improve monitoring of physiological changes, adaptive personalized reference ranges need to be adjusted.

Summary: The occurrence of depression is influenced by social relationships, and this study found that depressive symptoms of couples evolve over time. The study identified four distinct classes of couples based on their trajectories of depressive symptoms, with different implications for relationship stability and overall well-being.

Summary: This study developed normative data for steroid hormones in healthy infants using LC-MS/MS, finding age-related variations in adrenal steroids and testing diagnostic efficiency in patients with adrenal enzyme deficiencies. The LC-MS/MS method allows for quantifying multiple analytes simultaneously, providing an integrated picture of adrenal steroidogenesis in a small amount of sample. Normative data and percentile curves enable accurate interpretation of steroid measurements for etiologic diagnosis of disorders of steroidogenesis without the need for further invasive testing.

Summary: This study longitudinally assessed TFT in 548 pediatric patients with DS and established syndrome-specific reference ranges for TSH, FT3, and FT4. Median TSH levels were significantly higher than non-syndromic patients at any age, while FT3 and FT4 levels were only significantly lower in specific age groups. TSH levels showed significant fluctuations over time with poor agreement between sequential assessments of TSH centile classes. The 75th centile was identified as the optimal threshold for predicting the future onset of overt hypothyroidism using TSH values.

Summary: Using latent class growth analysis, this study identified six developmental trajectories of ADHD symptoms, with factors like gender, conduct problems, and cognitive ability differentiating between specific trajectories. The findings suggest that distinguishing different trajectories of ADHD symptoms could be clinically informative.

Summary: CBT-E involving carers is an effective intervention for adolescents with anorexia nervosa. The treatment results in significant improvements in body weight indices, drive for thinness, and other subscores of the Eating Disorder Inventory. There is also significant improvement in general psychopathology.

Summary: This study in China during the COVID-19 lockdown found that 21.3% of adolescents experienced depression and 11.5% experienced anxiety. Five distinct depression/anxiety trajectories were observed, with gender, academic year, residence location, mental health history, and COVID-19 community exposure being significant predictors of these trajectories. Less social support, positive coping, negative coping, and poor family function were also identified as risk factors for delayed or chronic dysfunction.

Summary: This study demonstrates that exposure to community violence strains relationships between adolescents and their caregivers, resulting in higher levels of interpersonal conflict. The results indicate that youth who experience high levels of neighborhood violence report higher levels of conflict with parents than youth with low exposure to neighborhood violence.

Summary: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) can interfere with testosterone levels, and low levels of testosterone are associated with increased cardiovascular events. Our study investigated the role of testosterone in PAHs exposure and cardiovascular health using data from the NHANES and a longitudinal database of Chinese coke oven workers. The results showed an inverse association between testosterone levels and the risk of dysarteriotony and dyslipidemia, indicating that testosterone plays an essential role in the link between PAHs exposure and cardiovascular damage.

Summary: Puberty in males is positively correlated with risky decision-making behavior, as indicated by self-report questionnaire and testosterone levels. Functional magnetic resonance imaging revealed higher activation in key brain regions, including the nucleus accumbens and caudate, during successful risky decision-making trials. Less pubertally mature males showed increased activation in the insula, cingulate cortex, prefrontal cortex, putamen, and orbitofrontal cortex during unsuccessful risky decision trials. These findings suggest a puberty-related shift in neural activation that may contribute to increased risk-taking behaviors in adolescence.
