Background: To understand the regulation mechanism of eyestalk ablation on the activities of hepatopancreas, Illumina RNA-Seq and digital gene expression (DGE) analyses were performed to investigate the transcriptome of the eyestalk, Y-organ, and hepatopancreas of E. sinensis and to identify the genes associated with the hepatopancreas metabolism that are differentially expressed under eyestalk ablation conditions. Results: A total of 58,582 unigenes were constructed from 157,168 contigs with SOAPdenovo. A BlastX search against the NCBI Nr database identified 21,678 unigenes with an E-value higher than 10(-5). Using the BLAST2Go and BlastAll software programs, 6,883 unigenes (11.75% of the total) were annotated to the Gene Ontology (GO) database, 7,386 (12.6%) unigenes were classified into 25 Clusters of Orthologous Groups of Proteins (COGs), 16,200 (27.7%) unigenes were assigned to 242 Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways, and 1,846 unigenes were matched to metabolism pathways. The DGE analysis revealed that 1,416 unigenes were significantly differentially expressed in the hepatopancreas, of which 890 unigenes were up-regulated and 526 unigenes were down-regulated. Of the differentially expressed genes, 382 unigenes were annotated and 63 were classified into metabolism pathways. The results of the real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of four unigenes related to carbohydrate metabolism were consistent with those obtained from the DGE analysis, which demonstrates that the sequencing data were satisfactory for further gene expression analyses. Conclusion: This paper reported the transcriptom of the eyestalk, Y-organ, and hepatopancreas from E. sinensis. DGE analysis provided the different expressed genes of the metabolism processes in hepatopancreas that are affected by eyestalk ablation. These findings will facilitate further investigations on the mechanisms of the metabolism of organic substances during development and reproduction in crustaceans.

Programmable intrusion detection for distributed energy resources in cyber-physical networked microgrids

Shuyang Ma, Yan Li, Liang Du, Jianzhong Wu, Yue Zhou, Yichen Zhang, Tao Xu

Summary: A programmable intrusion detection method is proposed to identify malicious attacks on distributed energy resources in networked microgrids. Due to limited resilience, microgrids are sensitive to attacks which can lead to catastrophic electricity supply failures. The method effectively detects, locates, and defends against malicious intrusions, providing a flexible and difficult-to-detect detection rule mechanism.

Tianqi Hong, Dongbo Zhao, Yichen Zhang, Zhaoyu Wang

Summary: This paper proposes a bilevel formulation to model the operation of microgrids in distribution systems considering the interaction between different systems. To simplify the solution time, lower-level problems are modeled using deep neural networks and converted into a set of constraints. The proposed solution is validated and shown to be much faster than other methods in solving voltage regulation problems.

Oscillatory natural convection of Al2O3-water nanofluid near its density maximum in a narrow horizontal annulus

Yu-Peng Hu, Feng-Jun Wang, Yi-Chen Zhang, You -Rong Li, Ming-Hai Li

Summary: This paper presents a comprehensive numerical study on the oscillatory natural convection of Al2O3-water nanofluid near its density maximum. The influences of nanoparticle volume fraction, Rayleigh number and density inversion parameter on flow pattern evolution and heat transfer ability are analyzed. Results show that adding nanoparticles stabilizes the flow and enhances convective heat transfer. The flow regime evolves with increasing Rayleigh number at different nanoparticle volume fractions.

Characterization of microbiota of naturally fermented sauerkraut by high-throughput sequencing

Shuang Zhang, Yichen Zhang, Lihong Wu, Lili Zhang, Song Wang

Summary: Sauerkraut is a traditionally fermented cabbage in northeast China, with diverse microbial composition and potential probiotic properties. Illumina MiSeq sequencing revealed that Lactobacillus was widely present in sauerkraut, with certain species more abundant in leaves than in broth. Additionally, beneficial lactic acid bacteria genera such as Pediococcus and Leuconostoc were detected, but harmful bacteria like Arcobacter and Acinetobacter were also found.

Yichen Zhang, Chen Chen, Tianqi Hong, Bai Cui, Zhe Xu, Bo Chen, Feng Qiu

Summary: Integration of grid supportive modes in inverter-based resources can enhance the frequency response of renewable-rich microgrids. To ensure frequency trajectory constraints under predefined disturbances, synthesis of grid supportive modes is challenging yet crucial. A numerical optimal control (NOC)-based control synthesis methodology is proposed to address this challenge. Linearized models are employed in control design, with linearization-induced errors analyzed and represented as interval uncertainties. The proposed control is validated on a modified 33-node microgrid, demonstrating its effectiveness and the significance of considering linearization-induced uncertainty.

Power System Restoration With Renewable Participation

Feng Qiu, Yichen Zhang, Rui Yao, Pengwei Du

Summary: Power system restoration requires sufficient initial power capacity for successful restoration. Black-start resources, which are scarce and expensive in areas without hydro power, are traditionally excluded from system restoration due to their uncertainty and variability. However, renewable energy, specifically variable renewable energy (VRE), is becoming a potential participant in system restoration as auxiliary black-start resources. This study explores the potential benefits of renewable energy in restoration and proposes dispatch models for wind participation to handle the uncertainty of wind generation.
