Summary: Lung metastasis is a major cause of breast cancer-related death. Tumor microenvironment and secreted factors, such as STC1, play important roles in promoting the metastasis. STC1 enhances cancer cell invasiveness, promotes angiogenesis and lung fibroblast activation in the metastatic microenvironment. Mechanistically, STC1 mediates its effects through the upregulation of S100A4 via EGFR and ERK signaling. Knockdown of S100A4 diminishes STC1-induced lung metastasis. Additionally, JNK signaling pathway activates STC1 expression in breast cancer cells with lung-tropism.

Summary: Flotillin-1 (FLOT1) promotes gastric cancer progression and metastasis through interaction with BCAR1 via ERK signaling. FLOT1 regulates BCAR1 phosphorylation and translocation, and BCAR1 knockdown blocks FLOT1-induced gastric cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Moreover, the expression of FLOT1 and BCAR1 is closely related to poor prognosis in gastric cancer patients.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory mechanism of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) on microglial activation induced by morphine in BV-2 cells. The results showed that morphine treatment increased CD11b expression, EGFR phosphorylation, ERK1/2 activation, cell migration, and production of proinflammatory cytokines, which were inhibited by blocking the EGFR signaling pathway with AG1478. These findings suggest that the EGFR/ERK signaling pathway could be a novel pharmacological strategy to attenuate morphine tolerance by suppressing microglial activation.

Summary: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) originates in the nasopharyngeal epithelium and is known for its high metastatic rate. The study found elevated expression of LACTB in tumor tissues of NPC, which correlated with poorer patient survival. The role of LACTB in promoting NPC metastasis is dependent on the activation of ERBB3/EGFR-ERK signaling pathway.

Summary: Cadmium exposure can promote the metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) by enhancing the invasiveness and mobility of cancer cells through the non-canonical activation of EGFR signaling pathway. This study reveals the unique signaling dynamics of EGFR induced by Cd exposure, which preferentially enhances the metastatic capacity of CRC cells rather than promoting their growth.

Summary: The study revealed that reduced expression of Kidins220 was associated with tumorigenesis, metastasis, and overall survival in pancreatic cancer. Knockdown of Kidins220 promoted proliferation, colony formation, and tumorigenic capacity of pancreatic cancer cells, and regulated cell migration through the EGFR/AKT/ERK signaling pathway. Kidins220 also influenced cell invasion via MMP1 in pancreatic cancer cells.

Summary: This study examined the role of hepatoma-derived growth factor (HDGF) in gefitinib resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and identified the underlying mechanisms. The results showed that HDGF overexpression aggravated the malignant phenotype of NSCLC cells, while HDGF knockdown reversed these effects. The overexpression of HDGF also led to gefitinib resistance, while knockdown enhanced gefitinib sensitivity. Higher levels of HDGF in plasma or tumor tissue were associated with gefitinib resistance. HDGF activated the Akt and ERK signaling pathways, independent of EGFR phosphorylation, contributing to gefitinib resistance.

Summary: This study reported a case of a patient with gradually increased CA19-9 concentrations over 4 years, but without any clinical manifestations. Through multiple system detection and other tests, it was found that the increase in CA19-9 concentration in the patient's blood sample was due to the presence of heterophilic antibodies. It is recommended to evaluate heterophilic antibodies in cases of elevated CA19-9 levels without associated clinical manifestations to prevent false positive results.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate differences in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentration and stability in different collection tubes, and to assess BNP accuracy. The results showed that BNP concentrations in EDTA/glass tubes were 31.4% higher than those in heparin/glass tubes, and 3.04% lower than those in EDTA/PET tubes. BNP stability significantly decreased in the heparin/glass tube, while it remained stable in EDTA/glass and EDTA/PET tubes at room temperature for 4 hours. The recovery rates of BNP in heparin/glass, EDTA/glass, and EDTA/PET tubes were 77.46%, 86.04%, and 88.23%, respectively. In conclusion, plasma in EDTA/glass and EDTA/PET tubes is suitable for BNP measurement on the Mindray CL-6000i.
