Summary: Phylogenetic analysis of monkeypox virus genome sequences from patients in Minas Gerais, Brazil, showed initial importation events in early June 2022, followed by community transmission within the state. All generated genomes belonged to the B.1 lineage, responsible for a global monkeypox outbreak. These findings can provide valuable information for public health measures.

Summary: This article reports the TL properties of rose quartz from Minas Gerais, Brazil. The sample shows a pure alpha-quartz phase and a wide optical absorption band at around 500 nm. XRF and ICP OES analyses reveal a high percentage of purity and the presence of elements like Al, Ca, Fe, and Ti. TL measurements using a commercial Riso TL/OSL reader show reproducible results with a prominent peak at 355 K, following first order kinetics with an activation energy of 0.86 eV.

Summary: The study characterized the lactic microbiota of Minas artisanal cheese produced in the Serro region using both culture-dependent and -independent methods. The predominant species identified in all samples was Lactococcus lactis, with core microbiota including L. lactis, Streptococcus salivarius, S. thermophilus, and Acinetobacter johnsonii. The study showed that lactobacilli and L. lactis are the dominant lactic groups and species in the Serro MAC, supporting the establishment of a typical microbial signature for this cheese.

Summary: This study investigated the presence and risk assessment of pharmaceutical products and herbicides in rivers in the Doce river watershed in Brazil. The majority of the chemicals studied were detected in the water, with herbicides being found in higher concentrations. The results highlight the need for urgent monitoring of emerging contaminants in water, as some chemicals pose environmental risks to aquatic life and humans.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the antioxidant properties and quantify the total phenolics and flavonoids (quercetin and rutin) in monofloral honeys produced in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The analysis revealed that A1-Aroeira and A4-Assa peixe honey samples had the highest phenolic and flavonoid contents, while A6-Aroeira honey exhibited the best antioxidant activity.

Summary: Arbovirus infections in Brazil, such as chikungunya, dengue, yellow fever, and Zika, are major public health concerns. However, the limited availability of genomic data hinders our understanding of these outbreaks. This study combines epidemiological analysis and portable genome sequencing to retrospectively describe the CHIKV epidemic in Minas Gerais between 2017 and 2021. The results show multiple introductions of CHIKV into the state, likely from other regions of Brazil, and highlight the importance of genomic surveillance in infectious disease control.

Summary: This study aimed to use Landsat data to predict and project eucalyptus forest growth and yield, as well as analyze forest growth dynamics. The estimation was performed using artificial neural network (ANN) and random forest (RF) algorithms. The results showed that the proposed methodology can reduce the sampling intensity of traditional continuous forest inventories without significant loss of accuracy, thus achieving cost reduction.

Summary: Brazil is one of the most important producers of wood products from forest plantations globally, with the increasing plantation area bringing significant economic benefits through exports. A study in the state of Minas Gerais, the largest plantation area in Brazil, found that an increase in forest plantation area is associated with a decrease in poverty over time. This finding contradicts much of the current evidence on the socio-economic impacts of forest plantations and has implications for research and policy in Latin America and beyond.

Summary: This study analyzed various aspects of honey from different regions of Minas Gerais, including botanical identification, physicochemical analysis, compound profile determination, and antiradical and antimicrobial activity. The results showed that all honey samples met quality standards, polyfloral honey had a lower concentration of compounds compared to other honeys, and coffee, Aroeira, and Velame honey had good antioxidant and antiradical activity.

Summary: In this paper, the trade-offs and synergies between increasing dairy farm productivity and mitigating greenhouse gases emissions in pasture based dairy farms in Brazil are assessed. The results show that farmers can improve production by 9.4% while simultaneously reducing methane emissions by 8.7% on average. The adoption of more productive cows and improved pastures have a positive effect on environmental efficiency.

Summary: The study found that nearly one third of veterinarians registered to administer vaccinations in Minas Gerais had been accidentally exposed to S19 and RB51 vaccine strains, while only about 5% of veterinarians reported having brucellosis, with nearly half of them attributing the disease to accidental exposure to anti-Brucella abortus live attenuated vaccine. Reduced knowledge of human brucellosis symptoms and lack of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) were identified as risk factors for unintentional contact with S19 and RB51 vaccine strains.

Summary: The study found a wide variation in the frequency of CMV congenital infection, which might be attributed to regional and methodological differences between investigations. Newborn characteristics associated with CMV congenital infections may direct investigations towards these patients with a higher probability of infection. However, as data are controversial, studies concerning screening of infection are important to define recommendations of diagnosis.

Summary: The study investigated the anti-inflammatory activity of Mometasone furoate (MF) in ocular tissues. It was found that at appropriate doses, MF was non-toxic and could attenuate disease progression, improve clinical, morphological, and functional parameters. The levels of inflammatory markers were also significantly reduced. Therefore, MF should be further explored as a promising drug for the treatment of ocular inflammation.
