Summary: Early detection and prevention of addictive behavior is crucial, as shown by the relationship between age of onset and addiction disorders. This study focused on substance use and addictive behaviors in adolescents aged 12-16. Findings revealed prevalence rates of alcohol, tobacco, and cannabis use, as well as a positive association between frequency of use and use in the immediate environment. Educational and preventive interventions are needed for parents and students to effectively address potential problems associated with addictive substances.

Summary: This study aims to detect unique profiles of risk and protective factors among adolescents with internet gaming disorder, compulsive sexual behavior, and problematic social network usage. The results show that adolescents can be classified into three different clusters based on their risk and protective factors: at risk, moderate, and resilient. The severity of addictive behaviors is significantly higher in the at risk group compared to the other two groups.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of telehealth in healthcare, with regional disparities in internet access and telehealth use. This study aimed to investigate the impact of individual and neighborhood characteristics, including broadband internet availability, on older adults' engagement in telehealth. Results showed that living in neighborhoods with lower broadband internet subscription rates was associated with a lower likelihood of engaging in telehealth among older adults who were internet users.

Summary: This study aimed to clarify the longitudinal reciprocal relationships between addictive internet use (AIU) and depression in early adolescents. The results revealed that AIU was neither the cause nor the result of depression in early adolescence. However, there were significant concurrent relationships between AIU and depression, indicating that more severe AIU was associated with more severe depression in early adolescents.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the relationships between breakfast habits, leisure-time sedentary behavior, and suicidal behaviors among Korean adolescents, with a focus on the mediating effect of leisure-time sedentary behavior. The findings revealed that not eating breakfast was significantly associated with suicidal ideation, suicidal plans, and suicide attempts, and this relationship was mediated by leisure-time sedentary behavior. Adolescents who skipped breakfast were more likely to experience suicidal thoughts, make suicide plans, and attempt suicide. Parents and teachers should monitor leisure-time sedentary behavior and breakfast habits to prevent suicidal behavior in this age group.

Summary: Research on cyberbullying has mainly focused on personal and contextual factors, but little is known about the relationship between cybergossip, problematic Internet use, and cyberaggression/cybervictimisation. Gender and age also play a role in this relationship. This study found that cybergossip has a greater influence on cyberaggression in girls and victims aged 15-18, while problematic Internet use has a greater influence on cybervictimisation in boys and younger victims.

Summary: In two-thirds of the examined countries, reductions of up to 40% in commuting mobility were associated with decreased COVID-19 cases, especially early in the pandemic. Once both mobility and incidence had been brought down, further restrictions provided little additional benefit. These findings highlight the importance of early and decisive action in a pandemic.

Summary: By analyzing data from the Koreans' Happiness Survey, we found that overall cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea, but the changes varied across different subgroups. Factors associated with increased smoking included male gender, receipt of the basic living allowance, self-employment, unemployment, and chronic disease status, while factors associated with decreased smoking included higher household income, temporary worker status, living with someone (versus alone), and having fewer offline friends. Factors associated with increased drinking included male gender, self-employment, living alone, having more offline friends, and chronic disease status, while factors associated with decreased drinking included younger age, male gender, low and high household income (U-shaped relationship), long-term rent with a deposit, temporary worker status, and chronic disease status.
