Summary: This paper presents data on the THC concentration in cannabis resin samples seized in the southern area of Rome from 2015 to 2022. The analysis of over 1000 samples revealed an average THC content of 18.0%, with a significant increase from 13.7% in 2015 to 27.1% in 2022. Some samples exhibited THC potency higher than 24% and even surpassing 40%. The spread of high-potency cannabis resin poses risks to public health.

Summary: This study optimized the extraction of cannabis using supercritical carbon dioxide fluid extraction (SFE) and prepared it as a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) to improve its dissolution. The highest levels of cannabidiol and Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol were achieved at 18 MPa and 40 degrees C without ethanol. The SEDDS formulation with the smallest droplet size and emulsification time was composed of a 45:40:20 mass ratio of (2:1 Tween (R) 80:Span (R) 80):coconut oil:cannabis extract.

Summary: Ultrasound-assisted extraction of intermediate product from mechanical expression of hemp seed oil was investigated to improve expression yield without compromising quality. The optimal ultrasound treatment was found to be 2 minutes at 152 mu m, resulting in a 13.4% oil yield and 73% increase in extraction efficiency compared to the control. Sonication had positive effects on press cake texture and extracted oil antioxidant activity.

Summary: In this study, pectin was extracted from lemon, bigarade, and orange peels using Box Behnken Design. The extracted pectins had a less branched linear structure, high GalA content, and high degree of methyl esterification. The pectins also exhibited high emulsifying activity and non-Newtonian pseudoplastic behavior.

Summary: Cannabis plants have been condemned by laws due to the psychoactive properties of certain cannabinoids, but recent advances in science and awareness have led to increased recognition of cannabinoids as a medical commodity. However, the technology for cannabis processing remains a bottleneck, causing a gap between demand and extraction capabilities.

Summary: Different extraction techniques were used to isolate bioactive compounds from industrial hemp, with supercritical carbon dioxide extraction followed by conventional extraction identified as the most valuable process. The content of cannabidiol in supercritical carbon dioxide extracts was significantly higher compared to other extraction methods such as soxhlet extraction and subcritical water extraction. Overall, the study revealed that supercritical carbon dioxide extraction followed by conventional extraction is the most effective method for isolating bioactive compounds from hemp.

Summary: An efficient and environmentally friendly method for recovering cannabinoids from cannabis plant tissues using organic solvent-free pH-controlled solution has been developed. The alkaline leaching method shows promise in replacing conventional alcohol leaching, as it efficiently recovers acidic cannabinoids from fresh and low-temperature dried cannabis. The study also offers options for cannabinoid storage and extraction in the cannabis industry.

Summary: This study aimed to valorize hemp waste from oil extraction as a source of protein by analyzing the effect of high-pressure processing (HPP) pre-treatments combined with conventional or ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) methods. The results showed that UAE had advantages over conventional extraction methods in protein recovery, and the HPP pre-treatments had an impact on protein recovery and purity. These findings indicate the potential of using UAE for protein recovery in the food industry and the importance of further research for optimization and cost estimation.

Summary: The Arabian horse is a historic breed that has been selectively bred by Bedouin tribes for over 2000 years. This study investigated the genetic differentiation of different Arabian populations and traditional Bedouin strains. The analysis showed higher genetic diversity in Egyptian and Polish Arabians compared to Desert-Bred. No genetic markers distinguishing traditional strains were found, possibly due to the lack of interest in this aspect in modern breeding programs. Further research is needed to study genetically distinct Polish Arabians that cannot be traced back to Bedouin tribes.
