In this study, 24 standard nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) species strains including 12 slowly growing mycobacteria strains and 12 rapidly growing mycobacteria strains were subjected to drug susceptibility testing using microplate Alamar Blue assay-based 7H9 broth. The most active antimicrobial agents against the 24 NTM strains were streptomycin, amikacin, the fluoroquinolones, and the tetracyclines. Mycobacterium chelonae, Mycobacterium abscessus, Mycobacterium bolletii, and Mycobacterium simiae are resistant to most antimicrobial agents. The susceptibility results of this study from 24 NTM standard strains can be referenced by clinicians before susceptibility testing for clinical isolates is performed or when conditions do not allow for susceptibility testing. The application of broth-based methods is recommended by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute, and the documentation of the susceptibility patterns of standard strains of mycobacteria can improve the international standardization of susceptibility testing methods.

Boronate Avidity Assisted by Dendrimer-like Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxanes for a Microfluidic Platform for Selective Enrichment of Ubiquitination and Glycosylation

Xue Zhang, Qin Wei, Xin Meng, Lili Zhao, Zhaosheng Liu, Yanping Huang

Summary: A new strategy utilizing a dendrimer-like structure of boron materials based on octavinyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (Ov-POSS) was suggested to improve boronate avidity with good accessibility of sites. The resulting Ov-POSS cross-linked boron monolith showed significantly stronger affinity for glycoproteins compared to the Ov-POSS-free monolith. The developed microfluidic platform, which integrated multiple functions, demonstrated high efficiency and high-throughput analysis for post-translational modification proteomics.

Effect of Substituting Nd for Y on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Mg-7Y-2Al Alloy

Lili Zhao, Yicheng Feng, Liping Wang, Lei Wang, Rui Fan, Tao Ma, Sicong Zhao

Summary: This study investigated the microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-(7-x)Y-xNd-2Al (x = 0, 2, 4, 6) alloys with the substitution of Nd for Y. The results show that Nd promotes the formation of the Al-RE phase and Mg-RE eutectic phase in the as-cast alloy. After solution treatment, all eutectic phases dissolve into the alpha-Mg matrix, while the Al-RE phase (Al2RE phase) does not dissolve. Additionally, Nd promotes the precipitation of the lamellar Al2RE phase and the nanometer beta '' phase, which improve the mechanical properties of the alloy. The 4% Nd alloy exhibits the best peak-aging yield strength, tensile strength, and elongation of 182, 285 MPa, and 7.4%, respectively.

Transcriptome analysis provides insights into the response of Lotus corniculatus roots to low-phosphorus stress

Xin Zhao, Ke-ke Chen, Lei-ting Wang, Li-Li Zhao, Pu-Chang Wang

Summary: A lack of soil phosphorus is a limiting factor for Lotus corniculatus growth in Guizhou Province, China. This study investigated the response mechanism of L.corniculatus to low-phosphorus stress using morphological, physiological, and transcriptome analysis. The results showed that a low-phosphorus tolerant line exhibited better performance and various morphological and biochemical changes were observed under low-phosphorus stress. Transcriptome analysis also identified differentially expressed genes and related pathways associated with low-phosphorus stress.
