Summary: Recently, it has been found that cilia defects may lead to scoliosis. This study demonstrates the essential role of coiled-coil domain-containing 57 (Ccdc57) in straightening the body axis of zebrafish by regulating ciliary beating in the brain ventricle (BV). Ccdc57 is highly expressed in ciliated tissues and plays a role in ciliary function. The coordinated cilia beating of multiple cilia bundles (MCB) in mutant embryos is affected, resulting in spinal curvature.
