Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Sofosbuvir-based therapy for all HCV genotypes in patients with advanced CKD, finding SVR rates of 97% at 12 weeks and 95% at 24 weeks post-treatment. There was substantial heterogeneity in the pooled results, but the half-dose regimen showed similar SVR rates to full-dose treatment with fewer adverse events.

Summary: PegIFN lambda is well tolerated in mice and leads to clearance of a persistent HEV infection in liver-humanized mice. The study found that human liver cells express the IFN lambda receptor and are responsive to pegIFN lambda. Dose escalation studies showed that a dose of 0.3 mg/kg pegIFN lambda treatment resulted in complete clearance of HEV antigen and HEV RNA from the liver in 8 out of 9 liver-humanized mice, demonstrating the potential efficacy of pegIFN lambda in treating chronic HEV infections.

Summary: Autoimmune thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' disease are thought to potentially have origins in enterovirus infections of thyroid cells. Research has shown that persistent enterovirus infection in thyroid tissue from AITD patients can suppress interferon and cytokine pathways while upregulating genes associated with immune responses. These findings suggest a potential benefit in targeting viral infections and inflammation in the early stages of AITD.

Summary: The study demonstrates that an engineered rhabdovirus can preferentially infect and kill HIV-infected macrophages, potentially providing a novel approach to an HIV-1 cure. By targeting impaired antiviral signaling pathways in infected cells, the virus shows promise for adaptation in the HIV-1 cure field.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between IP-10 and treatment response in patients with CHC treated with direct-acting antiviral agents. The results showed that IP-10 levels decreased gradually during the treatment and baseline IP-10 level and the decline at 12 weeks were independent predictors of SVR.

Summary: This study elucidates the molecular mechanisms underlying how HDV interferes with HBV in patients with chronic coinfection. The researchers found that HDV induces the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs), and these genes are upregulated in HDV/HBV-coinfected patients. Inhibiting the hepatocyte's response to interferon partially restores the levels of HBV.

Summary: The economic evaluation of elbasvir/grazoprevir (EBR/GZR) for chronic hepatitis C (CHC) shows that EBR/GZR may be cost-effective or dominant compared with pegylated interferon and ribavirin (PegIFN/RBV) and other direct antiviral agents (SOF/VEL, 3D, DCV/ASV, LDF/SOF) or non-therapy. However, in certain scenarios, EBR/GZR is not a cost-effective option for CHC patients compared to glecaprevir/pibrentasvir (GLE/PIB).

Summary: The study demonstrates that ISG20 is a nuclear protein induced by both type I and II interferons with nuclease activity, which works with APOBEC3A to degrade HBV cccDNA. ISG20 is localized in the nucleoli of interferon-stimulated hepatocytes and is expressed in acute, self-limiting hepatitis B but not in chronic infection.

Summary: The study found that IFN-alpha does not induce methylation of HBV cccDNA, indicating that methylation is unlikely to contribute to the anti-HBV effect of IFN-alpha in HepG2 cells. Alternative mechanisms need to be explored to enhance cccDNA methylation as a novel therapy against HBV.

Summary: A mathematical modeling study revealed a biphasic decline in HBV DNA even in the absence of an adaptive immune response during treatment with interferon alpha and lamivudine for chronic HBV infection. Interferon alpha mainly acts by blocking HBV DNA synthesis, with the majority of synthesized HBV DNA being secreted.

Summary: This study analyzed the posture of oral and maxillofacial surgeons using RULA and found that their working positions put them at high risk for musculoskeletal strain, particularly in the wrists and hands, elbows, lower arms, and neck. The first dental quadrant of their work caused the most unfavorable postures for the surgeons.

Summary: Emergency department staff are often affected by violence from patients and accompanying relatives. This study aimed to collect data on the frequency of violence and its correlation with burnout risk and perceived stress. The study also examined the buffering effect of preventive preparation on aggressive visitors and patients. The results showed that a high percentage of staff had experienced physical and verbal violence, with violence from relatives having a negative impact on perceived stress. Effective preparation and resilience were found to be protective factors against burnout risk and perceived stress.

Summary: This study developed a quantitative risk assessment model based on the threshold of toxicological concern (TTC) concept to evaluate the cancer risk of health workers in modern healthcare facilities due to occupational exposure to genotoxic drugs. The results showed that health workers in these facilities are not at risk of developing work-related cancer above widely accepted levels, indicating that current safety precautions provide sufficient protection.

Summary: This study investigated the measures for dealing with violence in emergency care and employees' subjective evaluations. The results showed that the availability of security staff and standardized reporting of incidents were considered important measures, but they were not consistently implemented. High workload in emergency care may impede the implementation of measures, and there is a clear demand for increased support from supervisors and hospital management.

Summary: This study aims to explore the perceptions of ED staff on available violence prevention measures and their effectiveness. Participants reported the effectiveness of environmental, organisational, and individual-focused measures, but financial constraints were identified as the main barrier for implementation. To address this, reducing workload, developing tailored guidelines, and implementing screening tools are recommended. Hospitals should provide guidelines to ED staff, and prevention measures need to be practiced and communicated.

Summary: This study compared two measurement methods, RULA-PP and RULA-IMU, and found differences in risk scores in the arm and wrist analysis, while the differences were small in the neck, trunk, and leg analysis. Summary: From 2020 to 2022, the number of COVID-19-related occupational disease claims in Germany fluctuated, with a decreasing proportion of severe cases over the years. The vaccination campaign played a positive role in reducing the infection risk for healthcare workers, but infection prevention at the workplace remains crucial.
