Summary: To investigate the prevalence and indoor environmental influencing factors of wheeze and asthma among preschool children in Urumqi, Xinjiang, China to provide a strong basis for prevention and control. The survey indicates that the purchase of new furniture, the placement of carpet or floor bedding in the child's residence, the pets keeping, room dampness or moldy phenomena, and passive smoking may all contribute to an elevated risk of wheeze or asthma in children.

Summary: This survey examined the prevalence of malocclusion and its associated factors in 3- to 5-year-old children in Huizhou, China. The study found that over half of the children had malocclusion, with deep overbite being the most common issue. Lip-biting habits were associated with a higher prevalence of deep overbite, while digit-sucking habits and dental caries in anterior maxillary teeth were associated with a lower prevalence of deep overbite.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and severity of asthma in preschool children in Shanghai, China, and identified related risk factors. The results showed that parental allergic history and personal factors, such as allergic rhinitis history and eczema history, were significantly associated with asthma symptoms. Environmental factors such as dampness or mildew at home and floor heating system were also found to be independent risk factors. Different strategies should be implemented in preventing asthma in different communities.

Summary: In Chinese children and adolescents, metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) and metabolically unhealthy overweight/obesity (MUO) are common. The use of the 2018 consensus-based definition may better identify children at risk of cardiovascular diseases. Older adolescents are more likely to have metabolically unhealthy overweight/obesity, while younger children who are only children, live in urban areas, have higher birth weights, longer breastfeeding durations, parents with overweight/obesity, longer screen time, and less physical activity are more likely to present with metabolically healthy obesity.

Summary: Breastfeeding has benefits for both mother and child, but its practice in China lags behind international standards. This study investigated factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding after childbirth. The study found that factors such as higher maternal age, ethnic minorities, and cesarean section were associated with non-exclusive breastfeeding, while factors such as multiparity, positive feeding attitude, and higher breastfeeding knowledge score were protective against non-exclusive breastfeeding. Additionally, the study found that breastfeeding knowledge score had a significant impact on exclusive breastfeeding for specific subgroups.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of overweight/obesity among 9- to 18-year-old adolescents in Keerqin District of Tongliao City and explore the factors influencing these conditions, including eating habits, lifestyle, and mental health. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in November 2020, involving 1,736 adolescents who underwent physical examinations and completed an online questionnaire. Logistic regression analysis revealed that nonresident students, higher frequency of physical education classes, and certain age groups had a higher risk of overweight/obesity. On the other hand, being female, consuming sweets less frequently, spending less time on computers, and exhibiting symptoms of depression were associated with a lower risk of overweight/obesity. The findings highlight the importance of addressing eating habits and lifestyle factors in the prevention and management of overweight/obesity among adolescents.

Summary: This study investigates the current status of DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccination in Southern China and explores the factors associated with uptake in the general population. The study finds that the coverage rate of the DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccine in Hainan Province is low and factors such as lower socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs, concerns about vaccine safety, and cost may hinder caregivers from vaccinating their children. Further measures, such as health education campaigns and domestic vaccine innovation, could be implemented to improve vaccination coverage.

Summary: The prevalence and influencing factors of hyperuricemia (HUA) in Gongcheng, southern China were investigated. Logistic regression and Bayesian network models were used to analyze the data, and it was found that fatty liver disease, dyslipidemia, abdominal obesity, creatinine, somatotype, bone mass, drinking, and physical activity level at work were associated with HUA. A good somatotype, achieved through a healthy diet and moderate exercise, can reduce the prevalence rate of HUA.

Summary: This study identified three novel genetic variants associated with SCCHN risk. Functional analysis revealed that one variant could modulate TCF19 expression by regulating the binding affinity of SREBF1 to the promoter of TCF19. These findings suggest that TCF19 may serve as a susceptibility gene for SCCHN.

Summary: This study aims to identify potential causative variants of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by analyzing the differential expression of long non-coding RNA genes in brain tissues. By utilizing different analytic methods, functional SNPs and their association with ASD risk were identified. Summary: This study found that exposure to sodium iodide symporter inhibitors, including perchlorate, thiocyanate, and nitrate, were associated with an increased risk of dyslexia. Specifically, urinary thiocyanate levels were significantly associated with dyslexia risk, particularly in boys, children with fixed reading time, and those without maternal depression or anxiety during pregnancy. These findings suggest the potential neurotoxicity of thiocyanate or its parent compounds in dyslexia and further investigation is needed to confirm and elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Summary: This study examined the sources, pollution, and ecological risks of PAHs in the Wuhan section of the Yangtze River. Sediment was found to be a secondary release source for two- and three-ring PAHs and a sink for four- and five-ring PAHs. The dominant contribution of PAHs in water was from two-ring PAHs, while in sediments, it was from four-ring PAHs. Higher levels of PAHs were observed around industrial areas during the wet season, influenced by local industrial emissions and rainfall/runoff. Risk assessments showed low risks in water but medium risks in 44% of the sediments. Energy structure adjustment and stricter regulations are necessary to reduce PAH emissions.

Summary: The use of thermochemical methods to convert biomass resources into high-value fuels and chemicals has gained popularity in energy utilization. In this study, natural minerals were modified through ball-milling to introduce acidic sites, and a solvent-free aldol condensation reaction of biomass-based cyclopentanone was carried out. The results demonstrated that the SO3H-APG catalyst with a -SO3H loading of 4 mmol/g showed excellent acid-base co-activation effects and catalytic effect in the condensation reaction. The optimized reaction conditions achieved a 85.53% conversion of cyclopentanone at a reaction temperature of 150 degrees Celsius and reaction time of 4 h. The dimer and trimer selectivity were 69.04% and 28.41%, respectively. Moreover, the analysis revealed that the presence of an acid-base bifunctional catalyst was crucial for the condensation reaction and this research offers a promising pathway for catalyst design and the synthesis of long-chain hydrocarbons.
