Summary: The integration of data from different sources using NMF and jNMF methods can facilitate clustering and interpretation, but they may not effectively identify nonlinear patterns. A new variant called Kernel jNMF is proposed to address this limitation, showing better performance in clustering and interpretation.

Summary: In this study, a novel non-negative tensor factorization (NTF)-based method is proposed for vibration-based local damage detection in rolling element bearings. The time-frequency method is used to decompose the non-stationary diagnostic signal from faulty machines. Multi-linear NTF-based components are extracted from a 3D array of time-frequency representations of the observed signal, allowing for efficient separation of informative and non-informative components. Experiments on synthetic and real signals demonstrate the high efficiency of this method compared to the existing non-negative matrix factorization approach.

Summary: A new semi-supervised NMF method called dual semi-supervised convex nonnegative matrix factorization (DCNMF) is proposed in this paper. DCNMF incorporates the pointwise and pairwise constraints of labeled samples into convex NMF, resulting in a better low-dimensional data representation. It can process mixed-sign data due to the nonnegative constraint only on the coefficient matrix.

Summary: Multi-view clustering based on non-negative matrix factorization (NMFMvC) is a well-known method for handling high-dimensional multi-view data. However, the optimization method using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) conditions is poorly scalable. In this study, we propose an unconstrained non-negative matrix factorization multi-view clustering (uNMFMvC) model, which decouples the elements of the matrix and combines them with a non-linear mapping function in a non-negative value domain. The objective function is optimized using the stochastic gradient descent (SGD) algorithm, and three uNMFMvC methods are constructed based on different mapping functions.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of climatic factors on urban water demand in Iraq and developed a novel forecasting methodology. The results showed that precipitation, solar radiation, and dew point temperature were the most relevant factors, and the use of the MPA-ANN algorithm improved the accuracy of the prediction. This methodology is significant for water utilities in planning and reviewing freshwater resources and adapting to the variability of climatic factors.

Summary: This study compared the association of cardiovascular disease (CVD) with epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) in HIV-positive and HIV-negative patients. The results showed that, after adjustment, EAT volume was significantly associated with coronary calcification in the HIV-positive group, but not in the HIV-negative group, suggesting differences in the mechanistic drivers of atherosclerosis between these two groups.

Summary: This case series reports three dogs with neurological signs diagnosed with intracranial granular cell tumors through histopathological and histochemical studies. The tumors showed hypointense lesions on T2-weighted magnetic resonance images, and their cellular origin was determined to be non-Schwann cell. This study highlights the importance of considering granular cell tumors as a differential diagnosis for hypointense brain lesions on T2-weighted magnetic resonance images.

Summary: This case report describes the clinical presentation and atypical MRI findings of a nine-year-old cross-breed dog with histologically confirmed multiple MPNSTs. The dog initially presented with ambulatory tetraparesis and was diagnosed with MUO based on MRI findings and CSF analysis. The dog responded well to treatment but deteriorated after seven months, with a follow-up MRI revealing new lesions affecting different spinal nerve roots. Histopathological examination confirmed multiple MPNSTs in the cervicothoracic spinal cord, a rare finding in dogs according to the literature.

Summary: A lack of transparency in machine learning models can limit their application. ANOVA methods can extract interpretable predictive models from them by decomposing them into functions of fewer variables. Retaining the terms involving only one or two variables in the ANOVA summation provides an efficient method to open black box classifiers.

Summary: This study describes the anatomical characteristics and histological features of the trigeminal ganglion to explain the reason for TGCE on post-contrast MRI studies of the brain in dogs.
