Summary: In this study, it was found that BMP6 expression increased after myocardial infarction, and BMP6(-/-) mice showed more significant cardiac dysfunction and lower survival rates after MI. Additionally, BMP6(-/-) mice exhibited larger infarct area, increased fibrosis, and more pronounced inflammatory infiltration. Mechanistic studies revealed that BMP6 decreases collagen secretion in fibroblasts. Lastly, it was found that rhBMP6 can alleviate ventricular remodeling abnormalities after myocardial infarction.

Summary: The ECM of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has partially uncleaved C-terminal prodomains of fibrillar collagens, indicating reduced procollagen C-proteinase activity. The enzyme BMP1 selectively suppresses tumor growth and metastasis in cells expressing high levels of COL1A1. Cancer-cell-derived fibrillar collagen plays a role in selectively restraining tumor growth.

Summary: The study reveals that BMP signaling inhibits dedifferentiation of intestinal epithelial cells, and attenuation of the BMP pathway through stromal upregulation of Grem1 is essential for adaptive reprogramming in intestinal regeneration. However, the functional impact of this intervention is submaximal, suggesting potential therapeutic pathway manipulation in inflammatory bowel disease.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the hypothesis that sustained local ionic homeostatic imbalance (SLIHI) created by mineral formation during tissue calcification modulates inflammation to trigger heterotopic ossification (HO), and to provide insights for the design of cell-free, drug-free osteoinductive bone graft substitutes.

Summary: In this study, the dose of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) was reduced and its safety and efficacy were improved through the regulation of magnesium ion (Mg2+). Magnesium ion enhanced cellular bioenergetic levels and the osteoinductivity of BMP-2. A co-delivery system, fabricated using microfluidic and 3D printing technologies, was able to rapidly and robustly induce bone regeneration.

Summary: This study investigated the covalent binding of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 and -7 in stem cells and its effects on cell adhesion, migration, and osteogenesis. The presence of both proteins enhanced cell adhesion but limited cell motility, while the presence of single proteins promoted cell migration activity. Additionally, the coexistence of the proteins significantly increased early osteogenic marker expression.

Summary: In this study, a complex coacervate consisting of fucoidan and poly-l-lysine (PLL) was fabricated to encapsulate BMP-2, avoiding denaturation and enhancing therapeutic action. The coacervate showed superior binding ability to BMP-2 and allowed for prolonged release, improving its bioactivity and protection against antagonist and proteolysis. The coated coacervate on collagen sponges demonstrated bioactivity and localized bone regenerating ability in vitro and in vivo evaluations.

Summary: Osteoconductive and osteoinductive coatings are effective strategies for enhancing the integration of metallic implants with bone. Composite materials based on PLA and HAp benefit bone cell development, while the addition of osteogenic proteins contributes to new bone formation. Laser-processed composites show superior ability to promote osteoprogenitor cell adhesion, viability, and proliferation.

Summary: This study investigates the osteogenic effects of tethered BMP-2 and BMP-9 on human MSCs encapsulated in a hydrogel. The results show that tethered BMP-2 and BMP-9 both effectively enhance osteogenesis of MSCs, leading to a mature osteoblast phenotype.

Summary: Orexins play important roles in sleep-wake regulation and food intake in the central nervous system. This study investigated the functions of orexin in adrenal steroidogenesis and its interaction with bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs). The results suggest that both orexin and BMP-6 accelerate adrenocortical steroidogenesis in human adrenocortical cells, and these pathways mutually inhibit each other.

Summary: Orexin plays a key role in regulating sleep, wakefulness and feeding behavior. This study shows that Orexin regulates gonadotropin expression by interacting with GnRH and the pituitary BMP system, and this regulation involves clock gene expression.

Summary: The study found that serum levels of TSP-1 and BMP-4 were significantly lower in lung cancer patients than in the control group. TSP-1 levels were lower in advanced stages and in patients with lymph nodes involvement. There was no correlation between TSP-1 and BMP-4 serum levels, and BMP-4 gene polymorphism did not influence the results of the study.

Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting allows for precise fabrication of scaffolds for tissue engineering, particularly those supporting cell attachment and osteogenic differentiation essential for bone tissue regeneration. Coating PCL scaffolds with PDA and depositing HA nanoparticles, followed by BMP-2 immobilization, promotes osteoblast proliferation and differentiation for potential bone tissue engineering applications.
