Summary: This study evaluated the use of hirudin anticoagulated blood compared to citrate in rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM) in thrombocytopenic patients. The results showed higher platelet aggregation with hirudin compared to citrate, particularly in patients with severe thrombocytopenia. Therefore, the use of hirudin anticoagulation is important for platelet function tests, especially in patients with severe thrombocytopenia.

Summary: This study evaluated the agreement of four different testing platforms used to monitor antiplatelet effects. The results showed that LTA and VerifyNow had the highest agreement for P2Y12-I response, followed by moderate agreement between LTA and WBA. In terms of ASA response, LTA and AspirinWorks showed moderate agreement, while WBA showed the weakest agreement with both LTA and AspirinWorks.

Summary: This study compared the drug responses of reduced doses of prasugrel and ticagrelor in Korean ACS patients and found that these reduced doses resulted in lower platelet reactivity compared to conventional-dose clopidogrel. Prasugrel showed significantly lower platelet inhibition than ticagrelor.

Summary: Knowledge of platelet function in pigs and the effectiveness of antiplatelet therapy is important for the transferability of animal studies to humans. This study characterized the baseline platelet function of Aachen minipigs, compared it with Gottingen minipigs, and evaluated platelet inhibition after intravenous administration of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA). The results showed differences in baseline platelet function between the two pig breeds and immediate platelet inhibition after ASA administration in Aachen minipigs.

Summary: In this study, platelet reactivity was significantly lower in patients with non-severe COVID-19 compared to healthy controls, despite higher levels of d-dimer, fibrinogen, and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) in the COVID-19 group. Thromboelastometry also indicated a hypercoagulable state in the COVID-19 group.

Summary: Studies on platelet aggregation have provided insights into mechanisms, but clinical tests have limitations such as technical differences, anticoagulant effects, lack of consideration for high shear forces, and failure to evaluate endogenous thrombolysis, which hinder accurate cardiovascular risk prediction and pharmacotherapy guidance.

Summary: Research on platelet function in surgical patients often involves taking samples from both arteries and veins. This study aimed to compare platelet function in arterial and venous blood samples using a novel flow cytometry protocol and impedance aggregometry. The results showed that for most parameters, the two methods produced similar results, but there were differences in certain conditions.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the performance of different point-of-care devices and platelet aggregometry in predicting postoperative major bleeding in high-risk patients undergoing cardiac surgery. The results showed that QUANTRA PCS, ROTEM A10 PC, and Multiplate ADPtest significantly decreased after cardiopulmonary bypass, while ROTEM PC and Multiplate TRAPtest did not. Postoperative platelet function testing can moderately to well predict major bleeding.

Summary: This study investigated the anticoagulant effects of protein-engineered hirudins using molecular dynamic analysis, molecular biological techniques, and in vivo and in vitro experiments. The findings showed that gene-engineered HM2 exhibited stronger anticoagulant effects compared to gene-engineered HV1, and HM2-E60D-I62D demonstrated the strongest effects, suggesting its potential as a more effective antithrombotic drug.

Summary: The study found no significant changes in thrombin generation in critically ill patients with renal failure undergoing continuous renal replacement therapy using regional citrate anticoagulation. However, the endogenous thrombin potential in the patients' plasma was significantly higher compared to healthy donors, confirming a procoagulant imbalance in ICU patients. Platelet function, as assessed by MEA, showed a persistent reduction throughout the observation period.

Summary: Xenotransplantation using genetically engineered pig organs has the potential to address organ shortage, but overcoming coagulation dysregulation remains a challenge. Various platelet aggregometry methods have been used to study this dysregulation, with impedance aggregometry providing additional information on platelet aggregation in xenotransplantation research.
