Summary: This research study evaluated and compared two techniques of intramuscular gluteoplasty. The technique with a vertical incision in the intergluteal groove showed fewer complications compared to the technique that preserved the intergluteal groove.

Summary: This review aims to investigate whether closed suction drainage can be safely omitted in patients undergoing mastectomy without exacerbating seroma formation. The included studies demonstrated that omitting drainage does not lead to a higher incidence of seroma formation. Further well-powered, randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate the effect of drainage omission on seroma formation.

Summary: The TULUA technique is a unique method for lipoabdominoplasty, which generally provides satisfactory results for patients in terms of abdominal contour correction. However, there is still a 20% complication rate that needs to be considered for safety concerns.

Summary: Abdominoplasty is a popular cosmetic surgery procedure, with seroma formation being the most common early complication that can be resolved through puncture and evacuation. Chronic seroma and pseudocyst formation, though rare, require surgical intervention to prevent recurrence.

Summary: The study reviewed the efficacy of using PTS without drains in reducing postoperative seroma rates associated with abdominoplasty, finding that PTS can significantly lower the seroma rates compared to using drains. Subgroup analysis, including liposuction, also supported this conclusion.

Summary: Abdominoplasty is a common cosmetic surgery globally, with seroma being the most common postoperative complication. This study found a global seroma prevalence rate of 10.9% after abdominoplasty, with Europe having the highest prevalence at 12.8%. The study also revealed a decreasing trend in seroma prevalence with larger sample sizes, older study participants, and later study years.

Summary: Although abdominoplasty and Brazilian butt lift (BBL) appear to have similar safety profiles in terms of mortality rates, they have different causes of mortality, with BBL having a higher mortality rate. By better understanding dynamic anatomy, surgical instrumentation, and technique, the potential risks of intraoperative BBL fat embolism can be significantly reduced.

Summary: Preservation of scarpa fascia during abdominoplasty may reduce the likelihood of postoperative seroma, length of hospital stay, time to drain removal, and total drain output, but it does not significantly affect the incidence of hematoma, infection, skin necrosis, and wound dehiscence.

Summary: The effectiveness of quilting/progressive tension sutures in reducing seroma formation after abdominoplasties, regardless of liposuction, is well established in literature. However, despite being widely studied and advocated, this technique is not commonly used and most surgeons still prefer drains. The author provides a literature review, comments on a study by Wen et al., and analyses the discrepancies between literature data and the study's findings to identify the reasons behind the low adherence to the evaluated technique.

Summary: This study aimed to verify the benefits of using intraoperative hypertonic saline irrigation (IHSI) in decreasing subcutaneous fluid secretion and shortening hospital stay in patients undergoing abdominal wall reconstruction procedures. The study included 64 patients treated with two different techniques and divided into two groups. The results showed that IHSI significantly reduced drain output and shortened hospital stay. Larger multicenter studies are needed to further validate these findings.

Summary: The study suggests that performing abdominoplasty in superficial planes with preservation of sub-Scarpa fat reduces the risk of seroma formation, making it safe and efficient without the need for drains or progressive tension suturing. Complication rates were low, and hospital stay post-operation was relatively short.

Summary: This study evaluates the pathophysiology of seroma formation after breast cancer surgery and finds a significant correlation between age and mastectomy specimen weight with the occurrence of seroma, while factors such as the number of lymph nodes removed and tumor characteristics do not have a significant effect on seroma formation.
