Summary: This study dissected 20 fresh female thighs to observe and compare changes in the superficial fascial system (SFS) and proposed new anatomy-based guidelines for liposuction-assisted thigh contouring. The thigh was divided into four units, and five different liposuction methods were formulated. The study showed that a well-sculpted thigh with its different sections presented in harmony can be safely obtained using these approaches.

Summary: A systematic review was conducted to provide a detailed understanding of pulmonary fat embolism (PFE), which can be accurately diagnosed through chest CT. The earlier the onset of symptoms, the more severe the clinical course of PFE. Once PFE-related symptoms are present, surgery should be halted, supportive care initiated, and chest CT used for diagnosis.

Summary: This study quantitatively and comprehensively summarized the risk factors for postoperative pneumonia (POP) following hip fracture surgery. Advanced age, male sex, chronic diseases, and preoperative biochemical indicators were identified as risk factors for POP. Related prophylaxis strategies should be implemented for patients with these risk factors.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of RCTs to investigate the efficacy of routine noninvasive respiratory support in preventing postoperative pneumonia in adults. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the incidence of pneumonia between patients receiving noninvasive respiratory support and those receiving standard care. Subgroup analyses did not demonstrate any benefit of CPAP, NIV, or HFNO in preventing pneumonia.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of cognitive impairment and dementia on adverse outcomes in older surgical patients. The findings showed that preoperative cognitive impairment significantly increased the risk of delirium, mortality, discharge to assisted care, 30-day readmissions, and postoperative complications. Dementia was also found to increase the risk of 1-year mortality.
