Summary: This study introduces a new surgical technique for pedicled TRAM flap that improves aesthetic outcomes by removing a part of the rectus abdominis muscle inserting into the thorax. Comparing with the classical pedicled TRAM flap, this new technique shows positive cosmetic effects.

Summary: Previous research has shown that online resources about breast reconstruction surgery have low readability, but specific online resources about autologous breast reconstruction have not been evaluated. This study assessed the readability of online patient-directed resources about the DIEP and TRAM flaps, which are commonly used in breast reconstruction. The results indicated that the readability level of both DIEP and TRAM resources were above the recommended 6th-grade reading level, and there was no significant difference in readability between the two procedures.

Summary: This study provides a systematic literature review and discusses the authors' long-term institutional experience with rare and challenging reconstructions of the posterior trunk. Despite a high overall complication rate, these reconstructions are often essential, and the use of an algorithmic approach can enhance outcomes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and availability of free-flap reconstruction via the retroauricular approach in patients with advanced-stage oral cancer. The results showed a higher success rate and slightly longer total operation time in the retroauricular group compared to the transcervical group.

Summary: The authors presented a novel technique using omental fat-augmented free flap for autologous breast reconstruction, providing a viable alternative for women who are not candidates for traditional reconstructive options. This technique was successfully applied in three breast cancer patients with satisfactory postoperative outcomes and no complications.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 996 free flap reconstructions and identified 220 cases of patients requiring multiple consecutive reconstructions, with 2 to 6 flaps per patient. The overall flap success rate was 89.1%, and a history of diabetes was identified as a risk factor for flap failure.

Summary: This study evaluated the outcomes of using no drains or alternative dead space reduction techniques in DIEP free flap surgery. The results showed that closure without drains could effectively prevent donor-site complications, but it may lead to longer procedure time and increased localized foreign body tissue reactions.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 43 patients who underwent complex scalp reconstruction using a latissimus dorsi free flap, and evaluated potential risk factors. The results showed that the reconstruction of complex scalp defects using the latissimus dorsi free flap had high success rates, with active tobacco use being the only risk factor for the outcome of complex scalp reconstructions.

Summary: The study presents a technique for transaxillary revision breast augmentation with conversion to a muscle-splitting plane, showing good upper and medial pole coverage and adequate lower pole expansion. The results demonstrate a low rate of complications and high patient satisfaction with no additional cost compared to other techniques, despite a short follow-up period of 13 months.

Summary: Although microsurgical breast reconstruction is an interesting field in plastic surgery, not all plastic surgery departments have access to proper microsurgical training. A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the learning curve of a plastic surgery department and a single microsurgeon performing breast reconstruction with a DIEP flap. The study demonstrated improvements in surgery time and postoperative complications.
