Summary: In order to utilize the underutilized oat crops, it is necessary to identify quality and yield related genes/QTLs from existing germplasms. The large family of grasses provides a vast number of germplasms for bio-prospecting. Molecular markers can be used to select cross-compatible oat germplasms and introduce novel traits into elite oats. The study analyzed the genetic diversity of 38 oat germplasms using ISSR markers and identified superior genotypes for high grain yield and high fresh weight.

Summary: Determining the appropriate parents for breeding programs is crucial for plant breeders to maximize genetic variability and produce desirable genotypes. In this study, five kalanchoe genotypes were morphologically characterized and molecularly analyzed. The results showed distinct traits in different genotypes, such as plant height, number of inflorescences, flower length, and flower diameter. Cluster analysis based on morphological and molecular data revealed different clustering patterns. The study concluded that orange, violet, and yellow kalanchoe are suitable parents for breeding economically valued traits in kalanchoe. SCoT and RAPD markers were found to be reliable tools for assessing genetic polymorphism among kalanchoe genotypes.

Summary: This research evaluated the genetic diversity and agro-morphological parameters of 12 local rice varieties in Pakistan. The results showed that Super basmati performed the best in terms of panicle architecture and grain yield, with higher numbers of filled grains and total grains per panicle. Additionally, some varieties were found to be rich in micronutrients. This study is important for breeding high-yielding and stress-tolerant rice varieties.

Summary: The study aimed to accurately identify the species of Acacia s.l. using morphological and molecular traits, assess the differences between the newly proposed genera of Vachellia and Senegalia, and detect genetic variations. Through investigation of morphological characters and DNA markers of 24 taxa, the study successfully identified the species and revealed genetic variations among them.

Summary: The biodiversity of carrot is important for human diet as it provides useful and necessary components. Eight carrot genotypes with different root colors were distinguished using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers. Three sets of primer pairs produced 92 loci, including 60 polymorphic ones. The genetic distances between the genotypes were calculated using Nei's coefficient. The AFLP method can be used for genetic diversity assessment in carrot breeding accessions with slight modifications including gel staining.

Summary: This study investigated the morphological and molecular diversity of 18 grape varieties in the Kayseri province of Turkey. The results showed differences in bunch, berry, and leaf characteristics among the varieties. Both morphological and molecular analyses confirmed the existence of genetic diversity in the studied germplasm.

Summary: This study examined the functional diversity of small mammals at different elevations in Africa and found that they responded differently to changes in elevation. The results showed that functional divergence increased with elevation, indicating strong environmental filtering at higher elevations. Summary: Tomatoes are commonly consumed in daily human diets, but high temperatures can reduce yields per year. Heat stress affects the morphological and molecular characteristics of crops like tomatoes. This study evaluated six tomato lines under heat stress and found that certain lines performed better in flowering, fruit production, and yield. Molecular analysis showed differences in marker values among the lines. Combined analysis of morphology, cytology, and molecular genetics techniques can help study genetic divergence in tomato lines.

Summary: This study evaluated the genetic variation and migration rate of giant honey bees Apis dorsata from two districts in Punjab, Pakistan at the molecular level. The results showed low genetic variation within and between the populations of A. dorsata from Nankana and Narowal, with a small level of migration. Further genetic investigations are needed to preserve the biodiversity of these endemic races of honey bees in the region.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic diversity of Spanish peach germplasm using genotyping and genetic association analysis. The results showed that the new SNP array allowed for better identification of genetic similarity and possible gene variation events. Additionally, the analysis of trait-SNP associations for leaf glands, fruit hairiness, and flesh texture provides valuable information for marker-assisted breeding and crossing approaches in peach breeding programs.

Summary: Invasive fishes have significant impacts on freshwater ecosystems globally, and this study aimed to enhance our understanding of the invasion process through analyzing biological traits in non-native fishes. The study showed that colonising minnows possess specific profiles of morphological, parasitological, and genetic traits that contribute to their increased dispersal capacity and survival in harsher environmental conditions.

Summary: This study assessed the diversity of 27 Capsicum annuum mutant lines derived from two varieties by measuring 23 morpho-physiological and yield traits. Significant positive correlations were found between yield and most other traits. The number of fruits per plant, fruit yield per plant, and number of seeds per fruit showed high genetic variation and heritability, indicating potential for breeding. Cluster analysis and principal component analysis helped identify different groups and select important traits and parental lines for developing high-yielding and climate-resilient chilli varieties.

Summary: This study assessed the genetic variation of 50 'Shazikongxinli' using morphological markers, IRAP, and ISSR. The results showed that IRAP markers displayed rich polymorphism, and the other two markers also showed some polymorphism. All three markers grouped the germplasms into two clusters, indicating a relatively narrow genetic base of the 'Shazikongxinli' population.
