Summary: The Ultraviolet Resistance Locus 8 (UVR8) in plants plays a crucial role in regulating plant growth through signal transduction events triggered by ultraviolet-B (UV-B) light. This study focuses on analysing the UVR8 in monocotyledon crops, specifically Brachypodium distachyon. The results show that BdUVR8 is a photoreceptor that perceives UV-B in B. distachyon.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between Brachypodium distachyon and an endophytic fungus Microdochium bolleyi and its effects on the defense against the pathogen Fusarium culmorum. The results indicate that M. bolleyi can enhance the resistance of B. distachyon and wheat against F. culmorum, and certain defense-related genes are upregulated after infection.

Summary: The GATA proteins in Brachypodium distachyon were characterized via whole-genome analysis, showing uneven distribution on five chromosomes and purifying selection during evolution, with putative cis-acting regulatory elements associated with hormones and defense responses. Among them, 10 genes responded to the fungal pathogen causing rice blast disease.

Summary: This study reveals the important role of the NPR gene family in the SA signaling pathway in the model monocot Brachypodium distachyon. BdNPR2 positively regulates the transcription of PR1 mediated by BdTGA1 through SA binding, while BdNPR1 functions as a suppressor of BdNPR2/BdTGA1-mediated transcription of PR1.

Summary: This study identifies a class III peroxidase, BdPRX76/BdPOX, that plays a role in regulating the size of hair cells and stomata in the model grass Brachypodium distachyon. BdPOX is mainly expressed in hair cells and promotes hair cell size by affecting lignification or crosslinking of related phenolic compounds at the hair cell base. The findings suggest a developmental interplay between hair cells and stomata that optimizes the functionality of the plant epidermis.

Summary: Recent studies identified a novel receptor BdPepR2 in Brachypodium distachyon, showing both catalytic and kinase activity, with important implications for plant processes. Through bioinformatic analysis, a conserved core catalytic motif was designed, leading to the discovery of potential GCs in monocots.

Summary: Study on the molecular events underlying zinc homeostasis in Brachypodium plants under varying zinc supply and resupply conditions revealed the key roles of zinc-responsive genes and transporter proteins. Root-to-shoot signals may mediate the overall plant responses to zinc resupply.

Summary: GRAS transcription factors are widely present in the plant kingdom, with 63 genes identified in Brachypodium distachyon. These genes play roles in growth and development of the plant, with some HAM subfamily genes changing expression during interactions with Magnaporthe oryzae, notably BdGRAS31 regulated by miR171.

Summary: The disruption of zinc homeostasis in secretory compartments, particularly the Golgi apparatus, has been found to enhance tumor growth, invasion, and migration in a Drosophila model of malignant tumors. This zinc deficiency-induced ER stress activates the JNK signaling pathway mediated by Atg9, ultimately promoting tumor exacerbation through JNK signaling-dependent autophagy. These results suggest a potential new therapeutic target for tumor treatment.

Summary: The disruption of zinc homeostasis has been observed in cancer patients, but the causative relationship remains unclear. Using a Drosophila model, researchers found that silencing dZnT7, a zinc transporter on the Golgi apparatus, enhanced tumor growth, invasion, and migration by inducing ER stress and activating JNK signaling through Atg9-mediated mechanisms. Additionally, the exacerbation of tumor growth by dZnT7 silencing was shown to be promoted by JNK signaling-dependent autophagy, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment.
