Sensitivity of Rhizoctonia solani Anastomosis Group 2-2 Isolates from Soybean and Sugar Beet to Selected SDHI and QoI Fungicides

Pratibha Sharma, Dean K. Malvick, Ashok K. Chanda

Summary: This study evaluated the sensitivity of R. solani AG 2-2 isolates collected from soybean and sugar beet in Minnesota and North Dakota to fungicides. The results showed that there were differences in the effectiveness of QoI and SDHI fungicides on these isolates.

Genetic Diversity and Aggressiveness of Fusarium virguliforme Isolates Across the Midwestern United States

Rodrigo A. Olarte, Rebecca Hall, Javier F. Tabima, Dean Malvick, Kathryn Bushley

Summary: This study characterized the genetic diversity and virulence of Fusarium virguliforme isolates from the midwestern United States. Three distinct population clusters were identified, but there was little correlation between virulence and cluster membership, as well as population structure and geographic location.

Diaporthe species associated with symptomatic and asymptomatic infection of soybean stems in Minnesota: identity, virulence, and growth characteristics

Crystal M. Floyd, Dean K. Malvick

Summary: The study identified and characterized Diaporthe spp. associated with soybean stem diseases in diverse environments in Minnesota. Three species were detected, with Diaporthe longicolla being the most widespread. Diaporthe cucurbitae was confirmed to be a soybean pathogen for the first time. The study also found that temperature and cultivar susceptibility influenced the growth and virulence of the isolates.

Phyllachora species infecting maize and other grass species in the Americas represents a complex of closely related species

Kirk Broders, Gloria Iriarte-Broders, Gary C. Bergstrom, Emmanuel Byamukama, Martin Chilvers, Christian Cruz, Felipe Dalla-Lana, Zachary Duray, Dean Malvick, Daren Mueller, Pierce Paul, Diane Plewa, Richard Raid, Alison E. Robertson, Catalina Salgado-Salazar, Damon Smith, Darcy Telenko, Katherine VanEtten, Nathan M. Kleczewski

Summary: The genus Phyllachora contains fungal parasites that produce tar spot on their plant hosts. In this study, the sequence diversity of 186 isolates collected from various hosts and countries was assessed. The findings suggest the presence of three genetically distinct groups capable of infecting maize in the United States, originating from different regions. Additionally, it was observed that some Phyllachora species can infect a broad range of host species.
