We show that, if decaying gravitino dark matter is responsible for the PAMELA and ATIC/PPB-BETS anomalies in the cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes, both reheating temperature and the gluino mass are constrained from above. In particular, the gluino mass is likely within the reach of LHC, if thermal leptogenesis is the Source of the observed baryon asymmetry. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Atomic form factors and inverse Primakoff scattering of axion

Tomohiro Abe, Koichi Hamaguchi, Natsumi Nagata

Summary: This study reexamines the inverse Primakoff scattering of axions and finds that the scattering cross section is overestimated for low-energy axions when using a form factor computed with a relativistic Hartree-Fock wave function compared to results based on the screened Coulomb potential. It is also discovered that inelastic scattering processes may dominate when the momentum transfer is small, and for high-energy axions, the total scattering cross section is well approximated by a simple expression with little dependence on atomic structure.

Studying squark mass spectrum through gluino decay at 100 TeV future hadron colliders

So Chigusa, Koichi Hamaguchi, Takeo Moroi, Atsuya Niki, Kosaku Ono

Summary: The study investigates the potential of determining the decay properties of the gluino in the SUSY standard model at a 100 TeV future hadron collider, focusing on the case where the neutral Wino is the lightest superparticle. The long-lived charged Wino is utilized to eliminate standard model backgrounds, allowing for a detailed examination of superparticles. Analysis of high p(T) leptons, boosted W-jets, and b-tagged jets provides insights into the gaugino species and quark flavors in the gluino decay, offering information on the mass spectrum of squarks even when they are beyond the kinematical reach.

Neutron star heating in dark matter models for the muon g-2 discrepancy

Koichi Hamaguchi, Natsumi Nagata, Maura E. Ramirez-Quezada

Summary: This work discusses the temperature observation of neutron stars as a promising way to probe models with weakly-interacting massive particles (WIMPs) coupled to muons. By efficiently capturing WIMPs through DM-muon or spin-dependent DM-nucleon scattering, neutron stars can exhibit a surface temperature much higher than predicted by the standard cooling theory. This effect is observable in old neutron stars and can provide insights into the parameters of such models.

Probing new physics in the vector-like lepton model by lepton electric dipole moments

Koichi Hamaguchi, Natsumi Nagata, Genta Osaki, Shih-Yen Tseng

Summary: We studied lepton dipole moments in an extension of the Standard Model, which includes vector-like leptons coupling only to second-generation leptons. Our model explains the muon g - 2 anomaly and holds consistent with experimental constraints on the electron EDM and Higgs decay. The generated EDMs, with magnitudes of approximately O(10-(22)) e middot cm for muon and O(10(-30)) e middot cm for electron, can be tested in future EDM measurements.

Thermal leptogenesis in the minimal gauged U(1) Lμ-Lτ model

A. Granelli, K. Hamaguchi, N. Nagata, M. E. Ramirez-Quezada, J. Wada

Summary: We discuss the thermal leptogenesis mechanism within the minimal gauged U(1) L-mu-L-t model to explain the observed baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU). In such framework, the predictable phases of the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata neutrino mixing matrix and the sum of the Standard Model neutrino masses are due to a restricted neutrino mass matrix structure. Our analysis reveals that thermal leptogenesis is feasible within a wide parameter space, specifically for Yukawa couplings ranging from approximate unity to O(0.03-0.05) and mass of the lightest right-handed neutrino M1 greater than or similar to 10^(11-12) GeV, setting a leptogenesis scale in the considered model which is higher than that of the non-thermal scenario.

Axion quality problem and nonminimal gravitational coupling in the Palatini formulation

Dhong Yeon Cheong, Koichi Hamaguchi, Yoshiki Kanazawa, Sung Mook Lee, Natsumi Nagata, Seong Chan Park

Summary: In axion models, the problem of gravitational violation of the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry due to axionic wormholes is addressed by introducing a nonminimal coupling of the axion field to gravity. The solution to the quality problem is found in the Palatini formulation, where the requested lower bound of the nonminimal coupling is slightly higher than that in the metric formulation.

Minimal Nambu-Goldstone-Higgs model in supersymmetric SU(5) revisited

Koichi Hamaguchi, Shihwen Hor, Natsumi Nagata

Summary: We revisit the minimal Nambu-Goldstone-Higgs supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) grand unified model and study its phenomenological implications. The Higgs sector possesses a global SU(6) symmetry and leads to light Higgs doublets, solving the doublet-triplet splitting problem. The model is more predictive than the minimal SUSY SU(5) due to the tightly restricted couplings of the Higgs sector. The perturbativity condition on the trilinear coupling of the adjoint Higgs field imposes limits on the wino and gluino masses.

Probing the Lμ - Lτ gauge boson at the MUonE experiment

Kento Asai, Koichi Hamaguchi, Natsumi Nagata, Shih-Yen Tseng, Juntaro Wada

Summary: The prospects of probing the L-mu - L-tau gauge boson at the MUonE experiment are discussed. The study focuses on the production of the Z' boson and its decay into neutrinos. Although the direct observation of the Z' decay is not possible, it is feasible to detect this signature by looking for events with specific scattering angles and energy distributions. The background events can be effectively eliminated through kinematic cuts and photon vetoes. The study suggests that it is quite possible to probe the L-mu - L-tau gauge boson without additional devices and recommends recording the relevant events.

Inhomogeneity of a rotating quark-gluon plasma from holography

Nelson R. F. Braga, Octavio C. Junqueira

Summary: This study investigates the influence of rotation on the transition temperature of strongly interacting matter produced in non-central heavy ion collisions. By using a holographic description of an AdS black hole, the authors extend the analysis to the more realistic case where the matter spreads over a region around the rotational axis. The results show the coexistence of confined and deconfined phases and are consistent with the concept of local temperature in rotating frames developed by Tolman and Ehrenfest.

Bing Sun, Jiachen An, Zhoujian Cao

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of gravitational constant variation on the propagation of gravitational waves. By employing two analytical methods, the study finds that variations in the gravitational constant result in amplitude and phase corrections for gravitational waves, and the time variation of the gravitational constant can be constrained through the propagation of gravitational waves.

Quantum tunneling from Schwarzschild black hole in non-commutative gauge theory of gravity

Abdellah Touati, Zaim Slimane

Summary: This letter presents the first study of Hawking radiation as a tunneling process within the framework of non-commutative gauge theory of gravity. The non-commutative Schwarzschild black hole is reconstructed using the Seiberg-Witten map and the star product. The emission spectrum of outgoing massless particles is computed using the quantum tunneling mechanism. The results reveal pure thermal radiation in the low-frequency scenario, but a deviation from pure thermal radiation in the high-frequency scenario due to energy conservation. It is also found that noncommutativity enhances the correlations between successively emitted particles.

Compact stars: To cross or go around? That is the question

Shahar Hod

Summary: The travel times of light signals between two antipodal points on a compact star's surface are calculated for two different trajectories. It is shown that, for highly dense stars, the longer trajectory along the surface may have a shorter travel time as measured by asymptotic observers. A critical value of the dimensionless density-area parameter is determined for constant density stars to distinguish cases where crossing through the star's center or following a semi-circular trajectory on the surface has a shorter travel time as measured by asymptotic observers.
