Summary: This study calculated the volume averaging effect using scintillation detectors based on a gamma knife dose distribution. The results showed that the output factors measured by the scintillation detectors were consistent with a commercial synthetic micro-diamond detector and recent studies.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the role and accuracy of k(Qmsr,Q0)(fmsr,fref) values in determining the absorbed dose rates to water in the reference dosimetry of Gamma Knife. The dose rates were measured using three ionization chambers and various correction factors were applied. The study found that the averaged correction factors reduced the variations in dose rates significantly.

Summary: A working group of the French medical physicist society was created to collect small field output factors from 23 centers, with standard deviations of mean factors ranging from less than 1.5% to 5%. The data obtained can serve as external cross verification and help minimize systematic errors in determining small field output factors for SRT programs.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to investigate the 2D and 3D radiotherapy dosimetric properties of PRESAGE (R) dosimeter using an in-house optical computed tomography (OCT) imaging system known as 3DmicroHD-OCT. The study showed that the optical density change on PRESAGE (R) increased as dose deposition increased, with a good agreement between the results obtained from UV-Vis spectrometry. It was also found that the dose rate variation did not affect the optical density change. The study concluded that accurate 3D and 2D measurements of PRESAGE (R) and EBT film dosimeter were obtained using the 3DmicroHD-OCT imaging system, showing potential for IMRT treatment verification.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to test the implementation of small field dosimetry following TRS-483 and develop quality assurance procedures for the experimental determination of small field output factors (SFOFs). The results showed that the spread of SFOFs for each linac and field was below 5% for all field sizes. The SFOFs determined using different detectors agreed within 10% with the respective linac-type SFOF curve, indicating potential inter-detector and inter-linac variability. Therefore, quality assurance on the SFOF measurements can be done by investigating the spread of SFOFs measured with multiple detectors and comparing them to linac-type specific SFOFs.

Summary: To fill the gap for the 18 MV energy regime, this study determined the field output correction factors for different detectors at 18 MV. Results showed that most detectors needed a larger correction at 18 MV compared to 6 and 10 MV, thus the use of correction factors will improve beam data for 18 MV.

Summary: Radiosurgery using LGK Icon is a common technique for treating intracranial lesions. TRS-483 provides guidelines for small-field dosimetry correction factors. Results showed that ABS phantom underestimated dose-rate by at least 1%, while SW phantom is less likely to underestimate by more than 1%. ABS phantom is not recommended for LGK reference dosimetry.

Summary: Purpose detector arrays and profile-scans are commonly used instead of film-measurements for linear accelerators' quality assurance. However, film is still necessary for certain measurements. This study demonstrates that small-field active detector measurements can effectively replace time-consuming film measurements when conducted in the clinical mode.
